I had that same green car seat in the back of my 03 ex cab since we drove away from the hospital. I was able to use the base that it came with. Fold the handle up, that will give you even more room.
My wife fit just fine in the front passenger seat.
I now have a full front facing car seat with about a inch more room than I had before.

Works for a booster, but not a full car seat.

I have an access cab with 1 infant seat in the back. The Chico key fit 30 fits good enough- the front seat is fully forward but still locks in place and the truck seat doesn't touch the kid seat. We tried a peg perego which seemed smaller, but wouldn't allow for the front seat to lock in place.

Sure a double cab would be better, but an access cab will work with 1 kid seat. 2 kid seats would be tough unless you are short! Forward facing seats will give you even more room, so really it will just be tight for a year or two.

Ya I even fit in the passenger seat to. So this will work. Not planning on another kid for the next 2-3 years and we will use my wife's Tiguan most of the time anyway

The local fire department checked out the installation and it was good. They had no problem with an infant/toddler in the back.

Some of the threads made it seem like an access cab 2nd gen wouldn't work, but it does. Hope this thread helps some parents feel better about their access cab.

Ya I was scared at first when I started looking around cause I have 2 years left of payments and my financial situtations wouldn't work getting a new one unless I go with something a lot older or some pos. After seeing some people that actually did it and it works makes me feel better.

First, I don't have kids, but I was looking through my manual to figure out what some of this "stuff" was, and one back side is specifically designed for car seats... Also, the 2nd gen access cab back seats are way more roomy than the 1st gens....

So I have an 08 access cab with 2 kids. One still rear facing. And have had them both in it a few times when my wife’s car is in the shop.

Ill just put it this way. It works. Kinda.

first off the seats fit without any issues. BUT. It makes it difficult to have anyone in front of the car seats. And you can test it out even if you don’t have a car seat yet..... pull you seats all the way forward and try to sit there. ( you may be able to go one click back)
