Which is what a taco is... if you wanted a “real” truck you’d get a 1 ton+ diesel work truck

Assuming the 4th gen is gonna be like a brand new Mercedes GLS I would like a ton of optional old school things such as:

    • Body-on-frame design, Manual Transmission, Crank windows, manual-adjustable seats, traditional / manual transfer case, manual parking brake, same or more ground clearance, optional sensors such as parking, pre-collision, etc..

    Other things like

    • More low-end torque, larger and more capable tires from factory, solid front axle, transmission capable for towing at its actual towing capacity, no drum brakes

Nahhh. I still consider my 3rd gen a decent truck. It can haul, tow (some stuff), and if it gets scratched or dented it's not the end of the world. I can also park it downtown if needed, and it fits on jeep trails -- long bed disclaimer, not quite as well.

1 ton diesel is way overkill for what I'd need. Taco fits my niche perfectly. I can go out and have fun and explore, and still take shit to the dump on weekends or pick up a bunch of stuff from home depot when needed.

New 1 ton diesels are like $80k. I can do 99% of what I need to do with my tacoma. If I need a half ton or 1 ton, I'll borrow one from a friend or rent one for the day.

Lol the 3rd gen has already outsold the total 2nd gen sales... with a lot more competition!

I was making a joke. Desire is completely relative.

The 3rd gen has done great in sales, no doubt about that. I wonder what precedent made that possible?

There are so many factors to consider the increase in sales regarding 3rd vs 2nd gens you could take an economics class on it.

‘ wheelin ‘ is a small segment of what tacomas are sold for.........How they are used

single didgit sales ........single digit % of actual use is NOT smart marketing

a 3 liter 4 cylinder 200 HP 250 lb ft torque gasoline engine

the V6 another level o upgrade is all that could be expected.........250....maybe 275HP 300ft lb torque
delivery thru a better staright foward trans......proper gearing

while the tundra is slightly more robust compared to the tacoma...........simply not as popular

toyota is not going to make the tacoma a ‘ Heavy Duty ‘ 4X4

issues with emmisions ace out a Turbo diesel !!

    more Manual transmissions available

the many electronic just n case modes for the transfer case could be eliminated

In all honesty, we could use some better options from factory. If they offered more than one gear ratio, and had factory clearance to fit larger tires.
The biggest is probably Toyota marketing to someone other than old men.

I would like the first page of the manual to say what the largest size tire you can fit on stock suspension.
