another thing to remember when crawling in our ifs trucks is flex. all our flew is in the rear, so pick your lines accordingly. sometimes the more off camber way or steep way is actually the easier one in our trucks, as long as we have traction with 4 or 3 tires... hard to explain but i know someon knows what im talkin about.

I used to drive a 4x4 Ranger and i was climbing a hill and (idk how it happened) i started to slide sideways off the side of the hill. The truck was leaned over so far i thought it was gonna roll. I had to call my dad to have him come rescue me cuz my buddy's truck was a POS that couldn't help. So my dad came out with his GMC 2500 4x4 and had to go down the hill from the top, and when he got to my truck we hooked our front ends together with my tow strap and he pulled me back onto the trail. It's kinda hard to explain without pics but i didn't take any.

The best trick I've seen for getting unstuck is from the sand... No pics, sorry...

When I'm driving on the beach I always carry a 5-gallon bucket. If I get bogged down, I take the bucket down to the ocean and fill it with water. I pour a bucket full of water in front of all four tires, then drive right out. I saw this done the first time when my uncle got stuck towing a double axle travel trailer on the beach at the outer banks. He got stuck in the soft sand and poured a bucket of water in front of all the truck tires and the four trailer tires. His truck hopped right up and started rolling again- pretty awesome to see...

That's all I got- other than using a winch :)

    1. A good trick: as soon as you feel your about to get stuck in soft stuff (snow, mud, sand) start turning the steering wheel left and right 90* so your front tires will keep getting a fresh bite at the sides and pull you/walkyou forward, and it will also change the bite at the rear tires.

    2. Back in the day (CJ-5 Jeep) I used to jam a large stick through my wheel to the leaf spring on the tire that was spinning in the air, basically causing the diff to send power to the stuck tire; poor man's locker. It worked a few times pretty well but usually just broke the stick. Still, if all else fails...

I was once told if ya get stuck in a small amount of mud to pour bleach on the tires and on the mud. It will somehow help improve traction etc...

NOT a tacoma but still its astory about getting stuck... in a Frontier lmao! My older brother took Me, my younger brother, his daughter, and his girlfriend on a snowboarding trip up in Pinetop, AZ . Firstly we got past the cops there by saying he had 4x4 so that e didnt need chains, and they beleived us, they stopped and made a check point before the mountains because there was a blizzard that just happened. Though we had left Pheonix alittle late and got to our cabin about 8pm, which was already dark. had trouble finding the cain because it was like in the middle of no where, we had to go up a pretty steep hill and it was COVERED in snow, so we just back up and FLOORED it, it made it up to the top and slide back down... He pretty much just floored it until it melted through the snow and caught traction lol. once we made it up the hill there ws about 100' of the trail wich had 3' of snow covering it all the way to the cabin. That wsa a struggle to get there and i had to get out and jump on the bumper finally making it to the cabin... BUT we passed the parking area because the snow completely leveled out with the cabin porch and the entire surrounding of the cabin, we just guessed ( which was right ) were the parking would have been, but since we passed it we couldnt back up because there was a wall of snow, it was a 30 min fight to back up 5' then we have to TURN which should have been an easy 1 point turn, though it turned into a 50point turn just slowley backing in and out, turning, sliding everywhere. He had been trying so long ( about an hour ) that the snow turned into ICE!! And we had to go UPHILL to park... almost slide backwards down a hill then barely caught it getting stuck in a 4ft pile of snow theat looked like snow plow made about 3 days ago. EVERYONE got out and started jumping in the bed and bumper it took FOREVER to just park! Which we were wearing thermal underwear jeans, and a long tshirt at -10degrees. We couldnt feel our feet by the time wer got in and unloaded everything. Got up the next morning, and he lost about 20% of his tire tread and there was tire marks and huge trails EVERYWHERE looked like a drunk asshole just went through the trail and messed up everything! lol good times...

    BAD :
No 4x4, in a Frontier, no ropes, no tire chains, stock tires,no shovels, no other town in 40 miles, and it was -10 degrees!!

HOLY CRAP THAT WAS A BOOK!!! lol sorry

    oil change...
I was in a similar situation in my last taco. I was in super fine, sugar sand. I could drive either way about 3 feet and would just start to spin...I had no tools, no shovel, by myself. I dug out with one of my flip flops....not fun.

yeah we had a nylon rope thats it... but he got stuck 2 times... the first time the floor mats worked then he stopped on what we thought was hard packed. then he went and sank again. so i quadrupled up the rope and was trying to pull him to harder ground. would go about 3ft before i buried myself. i could get out but he couldnt. it was so soft it was stupid. we had shovels and everything and we couldnt get him to move. and he is locked lol.

so... i had to call my dad with his duramax on 35s and he brought his giant strap and pulled him out haha. thanks to the dad!

Anytime you are going off road take a shovel. I always take my highlift jack with base and wheel strap as shown in the video above. For snow you can jack up the vehicle to clear out from under it. In sand lower the air pressure in the tires. You can go down pretty far. I've lower to 5 lbs on a stiff BFG race tire and 10 lbs on a BFG TA KO. Lower all 4 tires even if you are a 2 wheel drive vehicle. Just be carefull driving until you can refill the tire, you don't want to have the bead pop off. Having a compressor is good. Of course with a little lighter fluid you can pop it on pretty quick.

And for the love of god, make sure your truck is chocked properly before your panicked ass climbs underneath and starts ripping away at the very stuff that is keeping your vehicle upright in the first place.

I got hung up once on a hill, frame was resting on hard packed dirt, was by myself, and miles from town. I don't have a locker, and my two rear tires were barely touching the ground but once I started getting some momentum, the lsd would give power to one wheel and I would slide back. Soooo...i used my poormans locker (not highly recommended) pressed my parking brake (not break) until both tires started to spin and gave 'er hell. I got enough wheel spin to get me over that hill mind you this has only worked once for me. But it did help. I had a shovel, but was pretty much useless against hard packed dirt. I have pics but I don't have a compooter :(
