I carry chocks as well. Really helps pulling out heavy or mired vehicles and nice to have when doing repairs on the trail.

I should clarify that, by pulling out I mean winching out. I almost always favor the winch over the strap. Easier on both vehicles and if the winch breaks, i can still get home. Cheaper to fix then a diff or transmission as well

Don't have any pictures, and I only got stuck in some Georgia mud, but I got unstuck by rocking myself out. If you're not stuck in anything too bad, it's easy to get yourself out without even 4 wheel drive.

I just make sure I have all sorts of recovery tools with me at all times:
    Tow Strap
    Tree Saver
    Winch
    Come-a-long
    shovel
    axe
    tow chain
    d-rings
    Hi lift jack
    And most importantly...
A Spot messenger device and a plan left with someone back at home.

You mean alone as in one vehicle or just one person? I always have someone riding shotgun, but yes, I go offroad without other vehicles all the time. Experience and the right equipment are all you should need.
Guess I'm not sure what you meant exactly.

The last thing on the list... the spot messanger and a plan of were your going. That seems like a good idea. I just would expect that for someone going on an expedition but I guess worst comes to worst they know were you are and can get ya.

I use my Spot almost every time out. Not just offroading either, skiing, biking, hunting. Doesn't have to mean its an SOS message. You can program family and friends to receive an email or text message linked to google maps to show where you are. Cool way to share adventures with others. My Dad and I send each other Spot location messages all the time and we live 2600 miles apart. I just ordered a SPOT Connect which links to the smart phones through blutooth so you can access internet, send specific messages, not just pre programed ones. It will be great because I can tell exactly whats wrong like "Broke alternator belt, come bring me one"

Thought this thread was about getting unstuck, not survival. A bag of chips won't pull my truck out.:D

This is what I was refering to. Not your comments. I just never thought of leaving a map or trail of were I am going. I always let people know were I am going but not specific plots like you do and now I will. He just said I was making fun of you when I wasnt.

If the stuck means stay there overnight and try in the morning I am all for that. Otherwise I hate seeing people drinking and wheeling. On one trip I got buried in snow and was out diggin my vehicle out (Xterra) and in the span of about 30 minutes my GF at the time drank a whole 6-pack. :drunk: Lets just say she was less than helpful and we aren't together anymore.
