Has anyone else experienced a loud, intermittent, "howl" from the roof under moderate to high lateral winds? I first experienced this yesterday, at speeds of 75 mph+, with occasional gusts of wind coming from the side of the truck at around 20mph.

I don't mean a whistle, I mean a loud howl, bringing to mind the scream of a banshee, which seems to be located near the center-front of the roof. I first confused it for the sound of metal contacting metal, and nearly whipped over to the shoulder for an emergency stop before I realized the location.

No roof rack on the vehicle, and I looked for any obvious breaks in the seals around the doors or the windshield, and found none. The truck is a fairly new (6k miles) '12 double cab, and I'd like to get to the bottom of this if I can, as the situation will only get worse during the coastal spring, where I'll be dealing with worse lateral winds =)

    TIA!

Do you have a shell? I have a SnugTop on mine & have noticed this before. I didn't know what it was until a Toyota mechanic rode with me, heard it & determined it was the wind passing through the gap between the rear of the cab & the shell. I guess it was the only time I had been in that type/direction of wind on a stretch of highway I travel on daily. Haven't heard it since. We don't have windstorms like that day very often here.

Alas, no camper. It's really quite an odd sound, as there's no whistle to it at all. I guess banshee wail is a bit over-dramatic, it sound like an extremely loud vibration - closer to metal on metal. I'm wondering if it's just an odd property of the roof vibrating under the right conditions?

It is the windshield seal. See your dealer.
