I recently, in August bought a 2021 2wd 4cyl with the 2.7. Its great for what I need. However it developed this problem around 1400 miles. Basically when I start from a dead stop every time it shifts I hear a sound like a wind sound or like an owl hoot, or to best describe the sound “Like Blowing across the top of a coke bottle” And of course its intermittent. So The 2 times I took it back to the dealer they couldn't find anything. I had one of their techs ride with be and he said It could be characteristic for that vehicle. I call BS on that. I reminded him that I've had Toyota trucks since 1984 and this is my 4th new one. For instance tonight It did it and when I got to my destination I restarted to return, and it was normal. I soon discovered it got worse as the temperature got cooler. Its at its worst when really cold. Finally the dealer heard it on a real cold day. Took it in and they isolated the sound coming from the power Steering unit. Also when they took the belt off the sound disappeared. They changed the Power Steering Unit. And no change at all. I took it back and they are telling me again its a normal characteristic for this vehicle. Again I call BS on that. Its downright annoying, especially in a new vehicle. When its really cold you can hear it on idle., actually the neighborhood can at 5:AM.

Anyone ever heard of this problem before. Any help would be appreciated.

Possibly the high pressure fuel pump? I've seen a few threads regarding high-pitched noises from the high pressure fuel pump.

I have a 2.7l AT and get a very occasional slight quiet howling but never thought much of it.... I am hardly and expert but every new or used vehicle I have owned have had their own sounds and characteristics... Obviously I haven't heard your noise....

Thanks for the feedback, I know what you mean, I've been around a long time, I am around all types of vehicles. I've never heard this type of noise. It sometimes is loud and constant when i first start out, a few times at an idle when its warming up and sometimes normal with no noise at all. Im talking a noise that can be heard over the heater blower on full and the radio on. I keep a log and cold temperature is a factor. I bought it in late August. Everything was fine till cool temps came. That part of the problem, in in the S/East. Today its cold and really acting up. If I take it in again to fix, it may be 70 degrees for a few days and it will appear normal. Last visit they seemed to isolate to Power Steering. The tech even removed the belt and noise disappeared. They heard the noise loud and clear that day because temp was lower 20s and I left it overnight.
Its really frustrating, I really love the truck, everything performs as it should otherwise. Actually your profile pic looks exactly like my truck.

My 2021 makes a chirp sound from time to time, I hear it mostly when it's idling in line at a drive thru.
