    Hey guys!

    I've had a howling/humming... vibration in the pedals/feet from 20-30 mph. consistently.

accelerating or coasting ( letting transmission slow me down in any gear BTW)

clutch in - does the same but less noticeable - thats why im thinking u-joints ( no load on them)

inspected and greased all u-joints ( front and rear driveshaft) no difference - and no play

cv joints look alright - not a lot of play.

    transmission mount seems fine

wheels where balanced - and aligned 2 weeks ago.

this is what im thinking to troubleshoot...

take out front drive shaft and see if problem is still there...

    replace carrier bearing

    replace rear ujoints

    let me know guys!

    ill get a video soon

    thanks in advance!

take a look at the carrier bearing rubber support... it should be centered. The weight of the driveshaft and age cause it to drop and not be aligned "perfectly", if not you could be picking up some vibration through that. As the angle of each portion of the driveshaft increases the drive shaft goes through a speed up slow down cycle and it is felt as a vibration. This is why CV's or constant velocity joints were invented... they keep the velocitites of the 2 shafts constant and no vibrations until they wear.

    We just became best friends

I was just explaining to my wife that process while she was rolling her eyes

I’ll try it tomorrow and post.

    Thanks again

replaced the carrier bearing - no change -

im beginning to think its the wheel bearings.

i don't get any play really in the tires, but when i spin them i can hear some noise. i can't tell if its the breaks rubbing on them though

front wheel bearing give a hum when they are worn, but i have been able to rule them out by while they are humming, turn the steering wheel & if it goes away, its the bearing.

    i tried that - it doesn't go away - its a constant.

it seems to be getting worse, and i can feel the vibration in the petals/the floor board. maybe CV axle?

if it's a front axle you really would only feel it in 4wd.
you have to get the truck up off the ground & try to turn the wheels in neutral & see if its in the front or back. turning by hand of course. if it's a wheel bearing you'll feel it

if your pads are down to the backing plates, they will make a horrible vibration & your rotors will be cooked

I've seen worse. This is from a 1982 Cadillac DeVille.

That's the clue, of you can hear and feel noise then they're bad. Think of a rusty skateboard wheel bearing. The way I check them is to simply grab the upper knuckle and spin the wheel, you'll feel the roughness in your hand

ill post a video of the noise tomorrow - too cold today

but i did check the brakes/rotor..

they are fine - not even a 'lip' on the rotor from where the pads contact the rotor.

anyway - vibration is driving me crazy - i literally just drove home with no music/heat today to listen to it and drive myself nuts.

Alright guys - so i jacked it up, and spun the wheel. There was noise, like what i would think a wheel bearing would sound like...

but i thought it sounded like the brakes to me - so i did it on the other side... same noise. ...both wheel bearings bad?

then i took the wheel off and decided to check the brakes, they were contacting the wheel. so i took a screw driver/pliers and pulled the pads off the rotor and spun them - no sound...

so back to the drawing board i guess..

here are the videos - in order

    jacked up - spinning

    picture of brakes close/contacting rotorIMG_9409.jpg

video after i separated ( you can hear my cv boot a little and a pad is contacting every so often)

any other ideas - maybe stick a gopro underneath the car?

    thanks guys -

The pad wear indicators look like they are deformed and rubbing on the rotor, even though the pads have some thickness?
