How exactly do you have your bikes mounted in your bed? You can PM me if you want! :D

Oh, and to keep this on track I just pitch a tent as well. :p

    It is much easier!

I have the Rocky SD Mounts. They are fantastic.

I'm gonna try to mount them parallel with the bed this time. I was just trying out different ways.

I use the rear seats for storage... Non-perishable foods, extra blankets, clothes, and fishing poles, lol.

Hows Camping with a Double Cab Short Bed? Great if your 4' tall. I would go with a long bed if your planning to sleep in the truck.

Not the best angle, but I'm 6'7" and I sleep in the (short) bed with my GF all the time. One of these days I'll get a RTT, but untill then the bed tent is the way to go.

Ummm, read the post right above yours... He is 6'7".

Anyway, the TACOMA short bed is FIVE FEET, not 4. With the tail gate dropped, that is an additional foot and a half to the bed length for sleeping.

I know this is about a 5ft box, but camping in the 6ft box is great!!

Didn't have to go to work until late this morning, so I slept outside last night lol

Bought a Sportz III last fall for $209 and used it one night, it was great but the stitching broke on one of the pole pockets so i took it back (only used it one night). They didn't have anymore so i decided to wait til spring to buy another one, just got one yesterday for $130 hehe It fit me, 6'3" 195 lbs, my wife, and my 7 year old step daughter in the back just fine. Very comfortable length-wise. Will NOT be putting 3 of us in there again though haha

I own a 2002 taco 2x4 SR5 v6 auto with the 5' bed. I lucked out on a very nice overhead camper that fits in the bed right to tip of lowered tailgate. I ordered a set of Timbren load buddies and mounted them on the rear axel and this eliminated the rear end drag and sway.
I made rear tie downs coming off the hitch but the front are giving me a challenge. The traditional belly bar doesn't fit on tacomas. I tried the others I found online. I think I'm going to install D rings into the bed at the front with a steel plate behind it then chain the fron down with the turnbuckle. I might install the ratchet type web belts as a secondary hold to 'make sure'. I'll post some oictures later.

My previous truck was an '03 S-10. I used Happijac camper tiedowns.
The two forward anchors were 4" x 6" plates bolted to the forward bulkhead of the bed and extended out about 2" from between the bed bulkhead and cab. This extension had a hole that accepted a spring-loaded turnbuckle up to another plate on the pop-up camper...worked well.

All this talk about the "composite bed" has this newbie spooked.
Is the forward bed bulkhead not the heavy gauge metal it appears to be?

Or...if anyone is getting rid of their 'taco friendly' anchors drop me a line.

    Thanks

    Whit

Not that I drive one daily, but with time it gets pretty easy to back the bigger trucks in. The DCLB is only about a foot longer than the DCSB. I used to drive my father-in-laws 1500 Crew cab with the 6' bed ( which is longer than the DCLB) often, and it was pretty easy to back in. And that didn't have the backup cam.

might be picking up a 2003 Tacoma DC short box TRD for a long road trip through central america. Want to be able to camp in the bed with my girlfriend. Not worried about her height, I'm 6'. The box on the gen 1's is 5.5'? Anyone taller ever slept in the back of one?

Well the second gen short bed is right at 5' and with the tailgate down its a little over 6'.. I made a sleeping platform/ drawer in my truck with the camper top. Made an extension for it that sits on the tailgate and Im comfortable in it. But I still use my RTT.

    I'm 6' as well.
