hey @kerrdog do what makes you happy brother but he muted you a while ago. Wouldn't your life be better if you muted him back? Seems unnecessary but again it's not my fight.

Air bags for tow vehicle are a great benefit over leafs, just make sure your shocks have enough rebound damping, something you will probably only get with custom valved fox shocks on the Tacoma. The only down side is some setups will limit the suspension down travel. I use them on my tow vehicle, but that's a diesel 1ton.

I tow 6000 lbs with my Tacoma and with the appropriate tongue load, the factory springs seam to be fine. I can't imagine the 3rd gen springs are any different. If these new Tacomas are anything like their predecessors, you can work the snot right out of them and they will be... steadfast. That means towing and hauling the maximum loads as far and as often as you care to.

Just purchased a used aliner scout - 1080lbs low profile hard walled popup. Towed from Salt Lake City to Southern Nevada - no problems, took it easy as tires are load rated c so did not exceed 65. Got 18.4 avg for mileage. 95% of trip in S4 with ect, on some downhills S5, only had to drop to 3rd one time crossing several mountain passes.

I think the low profile really helps very little wind resistance have a cap too

A reason I invested in steel braided brake lines from Goodridge with some ceramic brake pads. Slotted rotors are next.

7x16 only had a handful of things on the newly built shelving. It was probably in the 3500-4000 range at the time and I only traveled about 5 miles in town. I have the Roadmaster Active Suspension on the back and it handles weight very well. This won't be a regular occurrence, though, as the 6.0L Express will handle towing duty most of the time.

She only pulls the duck/crappie boat, and maybe a 6x10 open trailer for time to time. Does fine for what I pull, but the 4.0 pulled it better. IMG_0568.jpg

I regularly tow my 30HP Kubota 4wd with loader and backhoe on a 18ft Big Tex car hauler. I have a 2012 DCLB. Trailer brakes are key. Heaviest thing I towed was a mid 2000's F150 crew cab. It was heavy, went about 180mi down the freeway.

Surely you have a picture of your TACOMA towing the Ford.

Absolutely. I think people just focus on weight of a trailer and don't realize wind resistance is a significant factor when it comes to towing.

I don't believe I have a picture of it with the Ford on there. It was a late night favor for a friend that broke down two states away. But in all seriousness it is a Ford so I should have more opportunities. Prior to this truck I had a 2006 Access cab 4 banger 5 speed 4wd. I towed a lot of stupid stuff with that truck. A K5 blazer, a Chevy K3500, a 1940 Ford Coupe. I never had electric brakes on that truck. They are capable trucks and will tow a lot more than they are rated for. I wouldn't recommend doing it daily. Also, the factory rear springs are pretty weak so tongue weight is a big issue. I have Dakar packs in the back now and it tows much better. Also, towing MPG is pretty bad. If you plan to tow regularly buy a diesel.

From my experience the wind resistance is a bigger factor that weight. For me the proof was when a friend of mine let me tow his 28ft Airtream trailer that is 8.5ft wide and about 6000lbs loaded for a trip with a 2014 Ford Flex with the ecoboost motor a few years ago. That same year his brother bought a traditional fiberglass travel trailer that has a nicely rounded front end, just under 24ft overall length and 7.5ft wide and it was just under 4200lbs at the scales. My friend and I picked it up for his brother as he did not have a tow vehicle (using the Flex) and honestly the heavier Airstream was way easier to tow than the traditional trailer as it is way more aerodynamic even though it is 1800lbs heavier. Even this past summer we all went to Florida from Canada and my friend was averaging 14-15 Mpg down and back while his brother's best average Mpg was just under 12 Mpg. His brother also has a Ford Flex with an ecoboost that he tows with.

I towed a UHAUL 6x12 trailer for a buddy that PCS'ing, according to the weight receipts the truck had 6200 lbs between the trailer and s**t that was in the truck, and we towed it down to FL from NC. It towed fine, averaged 12 mpg, and was able to keep it in 6th gear most of the way down on 95.
