had 3 different 4-cyl. toyotas that navigated the north maine woods. got me up, around, and back. was in some pretty nasty stuff. like mentioned earlier, got to use some common sense. weight in bed seems to help. tires can make a big difference. 30+ inches of snow-STAY HOME

Its all about the tires brother, its all about the tires and person driving. Driving first and tires second. I got snow tires and man I could go 55 on the highway with the snow on the the road and not slide a bit and stop straight line.

Ya I am Poor I am just looking for something I can run for a long time and still do great the snow and the highway and last more than 30,000 I know i am living in a dream world. Just afraid the highway on warm days would shred the duratracs really quick

The duratracs hold up well on and off highway. Just make sure to rotate them every 5k and get an alignment every 10k or so. I have had them for about 20k. They work well in snow, rain, and dirt, so so in mud(but that's typical for an A/T tire).
Keep it under 75 and you won't have any accelerated wear issues. They will get soft and wear faster when it's hot and you go over.

Wow...alignment every 20K? Does that hold true for all treads?

Alignment every 10k; more often if necessary. Reread my post, slower this time:p

Shite. I rotate every 3K, but never have alignment done unless I have work done/new shocks/etc. or hit a mammoth pothole.

Wait, seriously? Every 10K? I've never heard this. Where does this come from?

My truck just hit 20,000 and I have not had the alignment checked I was thinking about doing it at 30,00 it doesnt seem out of place. But It would make sense to do it when i get the new tires put on.

It's been the magic number for most of the vehicles I've owned. Some needed it around 8k, my tacoma has been good for about 15k. It really depends on the roads you drive. Smooth=less often, rough=more often.

If you see uneven wear patterns on your tires from a bad alignment, it's too late to fix it. The tires will continue to wear unevenly. The best time to catch it is when you feel the truck pull to one side, or it tracks poorly. This assumes your tires are good to start with.

It's the industry standard to do an alignment once per year. All the parts within the steering are designed to be adjustable, and they wear and adjust as time moves along. An alignment is easy protection to make sure all those parts are staying in place. With people like us (who use aftermarket parts and lifts and this and that) the odds of becoming out of alignment is greatly higher.

The average person does about 15000 miles per year, so his figure isn't far off, and it seems to work for him.

Yeah, not disputing anything. I've just never heard this (nor done it). I've always had long life with my tires, but might consider this now.

    Thanks guys.

You asked where the figure came from, I answered... :D

For the record, I had my old 85 4 runner aligned once. I had it for two years. I lifted it, rebuilt the front axle, and wheeled it hard. I have never had another vehicle aligned, ever...
