New engine plus labor cost to install it was $14K. I did at a reputable toyota lexus mechanic shop. It was unfortunate what happened, but the alternative was to declare a total loss and have no truck at a time when even used cars/trucks were astronomically priced during Covid times and new trucks were unavailable. And I needed a truck right away. It should've never happened to a toyota motor, but all of this stemmed from how poorly this truck performed at lower and higher rpms. (I wanted to explain what happened, but a hundred toyota fan boy chair jockey's from this forum will attack me). Paying $14K to replace the engine was cheaper than buying a newer truck and going into expensive monthly payments at the time. *(my truck was fully paid off at the time of engine blowing, and also I had just bought a house and was on a strict budget)*

We’d usually fly into LA and I’d rent a 911, Boxter, or Cayman from Turo and we’d head north. Obligatory stop at the Georgian in Santa Monica for their quiche omelette on the patio. Then up to Santa Barbara and we’d hit an indie hotel or airbnb. Or, we’d go a little farther and spend a night or two at a winery. Usually the airbnb would be up in the hills some. We only stayed ‘in town’ if it were one of the indie hotels. We’d hit the beach for half an hour or more so she could get her fix of ocean. We’d just drive around looking at all the gated homes up on the bluffs wondering who and where. Wander around town for a few hours. Hit the restaurants, etc. great place to visit, but I just have a hard time giving my money or labor to California these days. Beautiful weather, but it’s just not worth it.

2023 TRD Sport DCSB 19,623 miles no drive train issues. Build quality kinda sucks at 7,000 miles had the bed alignment corrected, rear bumper alignment, right rear door aligned, hood aligned and a small dent in the left front fender removed by PDR. What really sucks is I ordered the truck and it was put on a two month QC hold.

Other than all the build quality Issues it’s a great truck!

130k on my 2017 that I've had for 4 years, purchased at 14k miles.

Reliability issues: none. Not a single check engine light and only one phantom BSM light so far.

Major repairs outside of routine maintenance: timing cover leak addressed under warranty. I subsequently had a squeal and gas leak right after which were fixed at no cost. The gas leak was o-ring related and the squeal was a loose exhaust hanger. I am about to get my second new windshield as well from my 3rd stone chip/crack. One new battery.

It has now done 7, 19-hour-straight road trips since 2022 (MI-WY/CO and vise versa). I would never say she has had a rough idle but boy does she seem to run smoothly at stop lights after those trips.

110,000 miles and other than the known recalls it runs like the day I bought it with 6 miles on the odometer. It's been one of the best pick-ups I've ever owned.
