2017 Off Road, about to roll 100k miles. Had timing cover resealed at 77k, dry as a bone now. Nothing but routine maintenance, 5k OCIs, drain and filled coolant at 92k, spark plugs at 86k. Going in this Friday for new tires and tranny flush and fill. Things been absolutely solid, wheel it every weekend. Love this little truck. PXL_20231202_181101962.jpg

I just turned 500 miles on my new one.
    :D

However, it does have a steady tick since Day One.
It sounds like a lifter, which is odd, considering they use hydraulics.
I plan to do the 1st oil and filter service at 1,000 miles, and will have them listen to it.
I figure they will have the welding debris recall organized by then, as I am a low mileage driver.

This is normal noise. These are very noisy engines with the D4-S system.

2023 OR 4200 miles in 8 months. I'm retired so alot of that is fishing miles :)
Lots of electrical start, battery dead, rough idle issues in beginning. It was so bad I was ready to sell it. Constantly stranded. Then I had the Karr alarm removed, fixed everything.

All the noise of a diesel, with none of the benefits. :)

Only 46,500 on mine, have done all required maintenance intervals on it. Had one warranty issue. Belt tensioner went out at 45K, would have been a $500 repair if it wasn’t for the extended I bought. Which I thought was a bit on the high side just for a tensioner and 20-30 minutes worth of work. They made me pay $83 for the belt.

This truck is costing more for service per year than my old 1G, $1100 last year, this year is going to be similar perhaps a little more. Do drive 20K/year however. Though having the dealer do everything since it is under warranty. Last truck I did all the work myself.

2023 with 13.3k mi. Not an issue. Every time I drive it I cant stop thinking where are all these engine and transmission issues? It’s smooth and quiet. Responsive. Ya it whines up a bit going up a hill, but um, it’s a v6 mid size truck and still shifts where it should. I even hauled 800 lbs recently. I hear the diesel purr cycle noise once in a while. But geez its so quiet its like a cat purr. No issues. Stock tires suck ass but so do most car makers. 4x4 still works good in the snow and rural roads.
idk I guess my Tacoma isn’t confused, it doesn't think its a sports car. It knows its a mid size v6 truck and is driven that way. And so far saving money over a shit chevy v8.

My wife comments often how smooth and quiet my truck is. Really impressed with the power too, she has found herself driving well over the speed limit without even realizing it.

For the people saying they have issues with the transmission, shifting, responsiveness, etc and that have the Toyota (spy) app, i wonder what their drive pulse says? Does it say ‘Fair’ or ‘Good’? Mine says excellent so i assume my driving habits match well with how the engine was engineered and designed. If yours says ‘fair’ and you have issues, that might be the issue.

Thanks for the info. Had to google drive pulse”. Don’t even look at the app, never kept the subscription going, will have to see if that is still available.

I have a daily commute up, over, around corners, and hills through grandmas woods dodging deer and other assorted critters. It apparently doesn't like my cornering and braking sometimes of 90 degree downhill turns on roads with no dividing lines or shoulders. Otherwise all powerful Toyota is happy I guess. Thats not the only driving I do.

That’s because the drive train is fine . Most of the complaints here are way overblown . I’m not saying all
( before someone wants to kill me ) but most . My 19 has been totally fine . I did the rear brake light and the fuel pump recalls but that’s it .Both had no issues by the way. Otherwise it runs as I would expect

No issues coming from a 2016 being a first year redesign from 2nd gen. 94k. Small rusting on a few places where paint chipped, but i put the bed to work.

2023 OR w/5000 miles bought new in June. Needed over $6000 in paint repair the day I got home from the dealership. New leaf springs and shim in steering wheel for TSB. Recall for spiral cable in steering wheel. Rear drum brakes warped. Half a quart low of trans fluid. Constant torque converter shudder at most any speed since new. Today, another recall for the rear axle assembly. I've not been out any money, except for gas and missing work, but wow! what a disappointment and hassle this truck has been. If I can't get the shudder fixed, I'll be trading for a Frontier.
