its that time of year again where temps drop and i complain more. 12 degrees this morning when i left for work. clutch barely works around those temps. after releasing the clutch it takes a good few seconds to engage. very stiff and just generally unhappy working in sub freezing temps. anyone else having issues? know im not in the coldest part of the world, and know it only gets worse as temps go lower. is there a good solution for this? i was thinking a colder rated clutch fluid maybe? never had this issue in my other MT equipped cars but my last rx8 breathed fire and always got a decent warm up so everything got hot quickly

G2s did this too. After a minute or so it quickly goes away.

Mine always rebounded quickly once I started driving. Idling never did much

Same here. Seems like as the truck get more miles on it the pedal starts to loosen up quicker.

If it takes "a good few seconds" to engage, take it to the dealer. Not normal. I have my doubts about this statement.

Every vehicle I have ever owned has stiffer brakes an clutch in the winter. letting it idle isnt doing a damn thing. The brake lines are not hooked to the engines cooling system in any way, so warming the engine has nothing to offer. Once you start moving, hot air from the engine and radiator will flow back and help some.

You either need a heated garage or just have to deal with it. Only other thing to try is placing an incadecent light bulb under the hood near the master cylinders or under the transmission near the slave cylinder. Might help a little, but dont get it too close to melt plastic bits. It's surprising how much a 75 watt bulb can do.

All fluids get stiffer in the cold, just physics. You could try swapping to a lower viscosity fluid, but that requires flushing the old out, and making sure its compatible with the brake and clutch system.

It's hella cold in CA right now, like 55*, clutch is performing flawless.

Can you add engine block heaters to these? or just let the truck warm up longer.

Live in the midwest, this morning it was 4 deg when I left for work and everything was fine. I have never had a clutch that didn't work right when it was cold but transmissions that are stiff at first and hard to shift when cold are the norm. Letting it warm up some seems to loosen the trans and it will shift easier but I don't think it will have any effect on the clutch. I think you have other issues.

On my 08 Tacoma the Brake and Clutch Reservoir were shared and the cold did not bother it much, my 15 has 2 different Reservoirs with the Clutch sitting out by the fender and the pedal does react slower than my old 08 in the cold.

Yes, you can add a block heater. I just did about an hour ago. It's a cartridge style that fits in to a machined hole in the block. no draining of the coolant.

Normally I would say that it wouldn't to a damn thing for the clutch, but the clutch line runs very close to the block and heater on the drivers side rear of the engine. It might radiate a small amount of heat to the clutch line.

Here you go. some good discussion here on the lack of cold weather performance.

Put some water line wrap on the clutch line and plug it in when home.

And there is no 'clutch fluid'. It's brake fluid.

Brake fluids are rated for boiling points and water absorption, but don't recall seeing anything about cold viscosity.

I wish it was 55 degrees here but that aint gonna happen currently -20 plus wind chill of -35 so umm I don't recommend a block heater for that temp. It would be a wast of your money cause you would cook it!
