I just bought a Kenwood KDC-x496 and I'm getting a 'pop' every time I switch the source to either the Ipod or CD. It doesn't seem to do it any other time. When I switch it to the Ipod it will 'pop' twice then it's fine. It will 'pop' every so often when skipping through songs though. When I switch to CD it does the same thing initially except every time I skip tracks it gives a 'pop'. It only seems to do it with the Ipod and CD and it's only coming through the door speakers. I've done everything I know to do. I've redone all the wires behind the HU and I've redone my ground on the amp I have running my door speakers with a shorter and bigger gauge. With the old HU every once in a while the door speakers would 'pop' when I turn the truck off and it's still doing that also but just sometimes. I'm at a loss as what to do. The only other thing I think of is that something is going on with my RCA's. The 'pop' isn't noticeable at highway speeds but I want it fixed!

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
Have you grounded the deck itself? You might need to add a short ground wire from the decks chassis to a metal on the car. If not you may need to add a resistor.

That is exactly what it is. Check for a pinched wire, chaffed wire. And proper grounding

I've redone the connections on the back of the HU twice including the ground and even used the crimp cones the last time around. I may try and ground the HU to the chassis itself instead of through the wiring harness but I'm not sure if there is a suitable place behind the HU :notsure: The wiring harness was a new one that came with the HU so I wouldn't think that would be it but I guess it could be. Either that or my RCAs?

None yet, starting over!! OME lift w/ Dakars & 885's Remote Start w/ window control
crimp connectors are horrible.... learn to solder and make a connection that will last.

Outside of that, as others have stated, redo your ground, and run a new ground wire to a clean unpainted area of metal where you will get a good ground from - Toyotas typically have a bolt and factory ground down in the kick panels, but be sure to sand any paint off the back side.

Also, if you have an amplifier, when you run the new ground from the head unit to the kick panel, run another ground from the head unit to the amplifier (called a "source ground" in many circles) and recheck your amplifier ground point. Often times a pop sound heard through the speakers when an amplifier is involved is a result of a poor ground, be it the amplifier, head unit, or the RCAs themselves. Don't cheat on this - don't daisy chain from the head unit to the kick panel to the amp - don't ask me why, but go directly from the head unit to the amp terminal block... it just makes a difference. Besides, 12 awg primary wire should be about $5, and you can probably get 20 ft of 16 awg from your local install shop if you slap the closing installer a few bucks for a beer on his way home.

Also, do your big 3 wiring upgrade under the hood

So run a ground from the back of the HU all the way to the kick panels? I didn't think you really wanted a ground THAT long? I've already done the big 3 under the hood....it would be worth checking though because I'm sure their all covered in dust/mud lol
