Figured I would post my experience so maybe others with similar issues can use this for reference. I apologize in advance for the lengthy post..

    Wheels:

    Mickey Thompson Classic Locks
    17x9
    -12mm offset
    4 3/8th BS
    108mm Bore Size

So, since the day I got my new wheels installed.. I've had vibrations. the wheels were installed by discount tire, and were mounted and balanced.

while shopping for my wheels, I got all the info about them, to make sure I wouldnt have any issues. During that time, I noticed they were Lug Centric and not Hub Centric. I figured that wouldnt be a problem since i could get some Lug Centric(Conical) lug nuts and call it a day.

When the wheels were installed they came with a hub ring, but the wheel fitment guide said they were not needed for our trucks, so they were tossed and the wheels were mounted.

Once I realized I had vibes, I began to look into the "hub rings", especially since they came with some.. clearly for another vehicle. I found out the wheels hub bore size.. coming in at 108mm. This is larger than our Tacomas 106mm Hub. Manufacturers make their wheels with a larger hub bore so that they can fit a larger variety of vehicles. this in turn usually makes them lug centric wheels.. especially for our trucks.

I started looking into hub centric rings, Like Gorilla and other companies. After doing some reading and research about hub centric vs lug centric, and finding out the hub bore size of the wheels, i began shopping for some. I found some, on ebay, that were 108mm to 106mm. The measurements are OUTSIDE DIAMETER(108mm) to INSIDE DIAMETER(106mm).

Unfortunately i didnt get any pictures of mine before i installed them tonight.. so here are some from the interwebs for reference..

The rings fit onto the trucks hub.. perfectly, as they should. the wheels then simply fit over the hubs as usual. Just make sure they fit snug and fully around the newly installed hub rings. your done. tighten lugs as usual.. Im using Gorilla Black Chrome Spline Drive E/T Ultra Conical Lugs.. they're longer.. so you get more bite on the studs.. and conical so they add to the centering. they can be picked up here from Wheelers Offroad  In conclusion; before rings.. my truck had vibes at speeds over 50.. pretty bad too. after rings.. the vibes are 100% gone. it drives straight and true. with a total of under 25 bucks shipped from ebay.. these are great for aftermarket wheels and a possible solution for vibes. remember though that the wheels will still need to be balanced.. but if you have vibes even after a balance.. you might want to look into the hub bore of your aftermarket wheels and Hub Centric Rings! :D

    Hope this helps!

I'm curious what happens in a few days. I've thought I'd conquered the vibes too after rotating the tires and airing them back up only to be defeated ~2 days later. Hopefully my rings will be in soon and I'll have positive results as well!

Anyone know if the Texas Edition/TSS model wheels are hub centric? I've had tons of issues since I bought my truck getting my tires balanced. Both with the stock BFG Rugged Terrains and now my Duratracs.

Thanks Moose, for posting this. I have MT rims too but they came with the truck (bought used) and I'm not sure they are the same as yours. Are all MT's the same 108mm I.D.? And can you post a direct link to the Ebay hub rings that worked for you? Damn it would be nice to finally get rid of these shakes.

your problem probably is related to your lift, i HIGHLY doubt toyota would manufacture OEM rims that are bigger hub size than their own trucks

Lug centric wheels are just fine if you install them correctly.

Tire monkeys tend to crank the lugnuts down all the way one at a time not workinig them all up to the final torque in steps as should be done. This centers the wheel basedon all the lugnuts and you will have no vibes.

But...its 'yer money so if you wanna spend it on rings go for it! :D

TSS is a Dealer option, those don't look like any Toyota OEM wheels to me, in fact I've seen them on a few different makes around here. Not saying that they are lug centric or don't fit the truck perfectly, simply that those wheels didn't come from a Toyota factory.

^This. Always. Regardless of the wheel being lug or hub centric.

That is interesting. Maybe just luck of the draw.. or bad luck for me.

I figured this would be brought up. I do agree with you, that if the lugs are torqued in the correct pattern like they should be, there shouldn't be any issues. Which is why I went to two different places to have them check the balance and everything. So either they both dont know how to properly torque down lugs, or there was in fact an issue. Ether way, for less than 25 bucks, seems like a safe bet to give it a try if you've already tried everything else.

I wonder if all Procomp wheels have a 108mm bore as well? I'm having a hard time finding the inner diameter of my Procomp 7036 wheels, but they are definately lug centric according to their website. Maybe I'll just call them when they open?

I've got 20k on my procomps, no issues. Torque your wheels properly and you'll never have a problem centering the wheel on the hub.

I would torque mine at 30 ft*lbs then 60 then 90 all in the star pattern. I ran proComp 7089s for 6 years without a vibe.

$22.29 and free shipping... seems like good cheap insurance to me against tire monkey syndrome. :)

Ever since I've got my wheels I've had a little steering wheel shake and wandering at higher speeds. Nothing drastic really. Posted a while back my alignment #'s and someone recommended I take it back in and modify one small part, but I've been busy with work and haven't got it done. They came with the procomp black low profile lugnuts but after I got them I realized getting the Wheelers E/T was a better idea, again, just something I haven't got around to doing....until today. Got the 106-108 hub spacer as well, figured I'd give it a shot and see if it smooths everything up or not. We'll see!

Just installed these, went on a county road to settle the suspension. Then took it into town.

I still have very small vibes in comparison, but I will surely say that these have helped. Tires are 275/70/17 Kevlar MTR. So this might have an effect on it as well, not sure.

I had the same issue with aftermarket wheels, and tried to fix it by Road Force balancing them. Finally heard about these and installed them, they took all the vibration out. Thanks.
