I'm glad "I'm on Tacoma World" is an adequate explanation to Mrs. SpruceMica of why I'm laughing. I do not want to explain "thicc" or even moreso why I know what it means

Bagel train baby! But shit that’s in NY, I change my statement. Although it’s literally a stone throw from the NJ line, one could hypothesize that they pull from NJ water…

    Orange County story for you...

Back in my autoX days 10-15 years ago I sometimes ran with Poughkeepsie Sports Car Club at Orange County Airport. So we're running one Sunday and two huge guys on custom HD bikes see it from the road and stop to check it out. It was Paul Teutul and Paul Jr. of OCC fame. Couple of the 'vette guys took them for a ride on the course. Corvette was the only car there they could fit in...a Miata or anything else there just wasn't happening

Appreciate that. I'll be looking him up in a week or two.

What about Indy shops in the orange county area? I'm coming from the best mechanic I ever had, but he primarily services German vehicles.

What’s up guys. New here. Not sure if this is the official Hudson Valley NY thread but i thought id chime in! We’re in Middletown NY. If there is another forum y’all recommend that i can post this in feel free to let me know, thanks.

I bought my first taco, a quicksand colored 2017 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 TRD Off-Road Double Cab with the long bed. I thought it would be cool to find others in the area with a similar truck to get your wisdom and pointers but also to possibly buy/swap parts with.

So here’s the plan. I need to progressively do some mods to make my Taco more rugged because we do a lot of volunteer Disaster Relief Construction which takes us all over the place (which means long drives and nights slept in gas station parking lots) in areas where conditions can be rough (no power, no place to stay).

Anyway the list is long but I thought this might be the place to throw it all out there!

Here’s what I’m currently looking for (in order of priority):
-A camper shell of some kind (long bed) and or a ladder rack or bed rack
-2.5”-3” lift kit with bigger tires and heavier rear suspension
-Maybe a rooftop tent or a small camper or enclosed trailer depending on the $$)
    -Black Running boards.
-Any power inverter mod recommendations or offers

    Cosmetic mods:
-I’d love to find someone with a quicksand colored hood in good condition that has the hood scoop
    -More rugged black fender flares
-Black rear bumper covers with sensor holes.
    -Tinted headlights

Just FYI… I know everybody prefers cash but thought I might as well mention I’m a contractor and am open to trading our services for parts….

    Thanks y’all!!

Welcome aboard! I think you'll find everything you're looking for and more on the site. So I will say, if you're looking for capability for your work, keep it to 2" of lift, 2.5 max. These trucks aren't solid axle and 3" of lift is basically maxing out your suspension travel with no real benefits. You can easily fit a skinny 33" tire (255/85r16 or 255/80r17) even on stock suspension which is about as big as you can get before you start tumbling down a large mod rabbit hole (ask me how I know). As far as the hood, there's a thread here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-only-hood-swappin-n-tradin-thread.413378/
But you can only participate in buy/sell/trade threads and forums after 50 posts so stick around and start interacting, you'll be at 50 in no time

    welcome

Matt sums it up well above and the rabbit hole is real. Also 265/75/16 is a pretty capable tire size on stock suspension. Reccomend getting some UCAs when you lift. Lotta info on duel battery setups, which I would reccomend for running a bigger inverter. don’t forget armor: skids sliders and the like. Ditch the running board idea and get real protection. IMO more important than lift if your gonna be bashing it around in the woods.
Watch the buy sell threads especially if you travel a lot, deals pop up all over the place most often not in close proximity.

    see ya around Orange County

@Dfelly Welcome! I started this thread because I didn't see one for us. There's a lot of good, active guys in the Connecticut thread too.

Like the others, I wouldn't recommend going over 2 or 2.5 inches of lift. The benefits are far outweighed by the downsides at that point. You can fit a 265/70/17 no problem at that point. I'm down in the Greenwood Lake area and could possibly give you a hand with suspension stuff if you need it. I just finished a 2" lift in mine and other than not using blocks to lift, my other advice is to do upper control arms even with a relatively small lift like that. Also, there's a great alignment shop right over the Bear Mtn Bridge that knows these trucks inside and out.

Thanks for the good tips…especially regarding the pros and cons of the lift.
