Does anyone else get a high pitched hum from what sounds like the back of the truck when lifting off the gas. It happens to me when it slows down from like 60 to 50 on the highway. Does anyone else have this?

It's normal only in the sense that many, if not most, of them do it. It's not normal in the sense that it wasn't designed to sound like that and good healthy differentials shouldn't make those sounds.

I still have a hard time believing they have done nothing to address the issue by now, its not like they are not aware of it.

Completely normal...its in all 3 gens! Well cept for my truck.

    3 things to help:

    1) turn up Radio
    2) wife that likes to talk a lot
    3) when #2 gets annoying refer to #1

    It's NOT normal.
    My truck does it.
As a matter of fact it's the only qualm I have with my truck at all.
I do not believe it's in the rear diff. I thought it was coming from a possible bad u joint.
@BamaToy1997 do you have any wisdom to share with us?

I will also add my truck has done this since day one.

It does appear from the description to be the coast side whine on the ring and pinion. When either backlash or preload are not correct, it can cause a noise. If there is no significant wear these adjustments can be made to reduce or eliminate the noise. Any dealer that says this is normal, or can't be fixed, simply doesn't want your business. I've taken care of this noise hundreds of times. The key here is the longer you wait to get it fixed, the higher the likelihood that you will have to replace the gears due to wear.

Do these use crush washers or spacers on the pinion?

I would honestly talk to the Service Manager at the Dealer before you buy any tires just in case they try to blame you for the problem, this way you have something to back you up.

It could be road noise from your tires. Some will say its the differential which is a possibility but they don't know either.

If it were tires then l would think the howling would be constant.

Yep. The sound isn't speed sensitive, it's throttle sensitive so it's not the tires.

Why does everyone think it's the wheels/tires? No tires ive owned made a noise or a howl.
