Exactly why I am not going to use my Toyota care. I want to keep this truck for at least 10 to 15 years, I don't want to bet its longevity on a few free oil changes that may or may not actually happen.

Those ramps are mad dangerous. The plastic cracks and fails; it's only a matter of time. If you set up jack stands, (preferably ones rated to triple the load capacity that you need,) and you set them up properly, you are much safer than relying on plastic to hold the weight of a vehicle.

Blew off my Toyota care. My truck will NEVER return to a Toyota dealer as long as I own it/have a pulse. Useless and incompetent is what I picked up after a quick stroll through the service department speaking to a couple "service writers".... My truck already has 16k, and short of it throwing a rod through the side of the block before 36k it won't be back. If it throws a rod @ 37k I will get a junkyard motor and fix it myself, it will be less frustrating.

You know that the power train warranty is 5 years or 60K miles....

This is why I've done all my own maintenance for the 3 years since new. I don't trust jockeys touching my truck. At least when I do it, I know it's not only done, but done with care.

Thinking of my Ford I guess... I've distanced myself that far in my mind I simply don't care enough to keep straight, LOL.

ok then 61k miles (equally unlikely) :D

    Sorry to hear that OP.

For 20 yrs I always had my vehicles serviced, but about 3 yrs ago I decided I had the time, money, space and knowledge to do it all myself.

If feels really good "scheduling" maint on my time and knowing its done right.

It's probably a break even if you factor my time but I take pride it not seeing a oil change reminder sticker on the window or receipts stuffed in my glovebox.

Saving money is why I started doing my own. It is how I justify my tool collection. As far as the value of time, besides enjoying it, I figure I would be spending that time sitting at the dealership waiting for them to do the same thing anyway, and that is if you are first in line when you get there.

I had them do the free oil changes, after all free is free and oil ain't getting any cheaper especially synthetic.

It would always take a really long time but they never tried to upsell me anything but a cabin air filter. I did check the box for heavier use which indicates that the propeller shaft should be lubed but they never did it and it was unclear if they were required to. I did catch them not rotating the tires. I also directed them to stop "washing" it because the whole truck would be covered with massive amounts of water spots. They did a fairly good job of vacuuming.

Biggest issue I had was the hours I would wait for a simple oil change and the annoying passive aggressive assholes in the waiting room with me stroking their phones and giving each other dirty looks. But hey Fort Wayne is full of people like that it ain't the stealership's fault...

I did have them replace the center console since the lid latch broke and also replace the heater blower fan that took a crap, all under warranty.

I do all the service now that the free stuff is over and the whole vehicle warranty is expired. I would probably bring it in for something that was covered by the powertrain warranty.

Tire warranties are voided if you fail to rotate them within the specified mileage and pattern set forth by that particular tire manufacturer. I'd demand a new set if a dealership lied about rotating them.

When I went to buy my truck, I went to a dealership really close to my house. It's in South Mephis, TN. I had been shopping the Internet for months and was waiting for the Sale a Thon and to buy near the end of the month, sometimes you get a better deal. So I go to the local dealership and the salesman just outright told me I didn't have good enough credit to buy a Tacoma. They only had 7 on the lot. The one I wanted was grey, not red like I really wanted, but I was going to buy it. The Sale a Thon was 3K off the sticker price on all Toyotas all across America. This sales man said it didn't apply to the Tacomas. Said he had plenty of nice Camrys and could get me a really good deal on one. I was pissed, naturally, that he said my credit was not good enough to buy a Tacoma. It's not a 750 but it was higher than 660. I went through a law suit and had to do a voluntary turn in on a car 4 years prior, but I won the law suit and did pay off the rest of that vehicle, with the bank he was trying to get me financed through. So I knew my credit was not that great but not that bad either. So hey, I did like the Camrys but I told him specifically that I wanted a V6 and would not even consider the 4 cylinder. He said fine, come back tomorrow and we'll fix you up. So I go to work that night and the next day, I go by. He had a wonderful and very beautiful Camry there so we went for a test drive. I immediately noticed by the power that this was no V6. I asked him and he said, "You don't need a V6, you'll just get a bunch of speeding tickets with that thing." Now I'm 50 years old and I don't drive fast and in all my life, I've only had 1 speeding ticket, and that was over 15 years ago. The nerve of that guy! So I asked him if they had a V6 on the lot, he said yes, so I said let's go drive that. I DOGGED that V6 out! He was grabbing the OH SHIT bar and yelling at me and saying if I got pulled over, the ticket was mine! I said I have plenty of money. I can afford a ticket. So we went back to the dealership and I got out and told him to write it up and I'd come pick it up tomorrow as I had to work again. Then I left and went to work. Told my buddies about it all and they told me that dealership was privately owned and they were jerks. So I called the other dealership, 20 miles away, and the salesman said they open at 9am, but due to my working hours, I work nights in the ER, he said he would be there at 8am waiting for me so I could get a deal, get home and sleep well for work the next night. He was there when I drove up the next morning and I saw a red Tacoma WAY across the lot, the only red one they had, asked him if it was a 4x4 with the Off Road package, he said yes it was, and I said that's the one I want. Two hours later I was driving it home. Got the 3K off due to the Sale a Thon, financed with the same bank at 3% less than the other dealership quoted me in the first place, with payments the same as the Camry they quoted me. 4 other men were there just waiting to see if my deal fell through as they also wanted the red one. But I got it. That POS salesman from the other dealership kept calling me asking me when I was going to come pick up my V6 Camry as the Sale a Thon was about over, and I let him sweat it out for a few days before I called him and told him I didn't need the Camry as I went to a different dealership and bought the Tacoma that he did not want to sell me. I told him he should have realized that it was my money we were spending and I wanted a Tacoma. I also named him and the finance manager in the 3 different surveys I filled out after my purchase from the other dealership and that he should expect some correspondence from them soon as I had been assured that they were going to check into this horrible experience from that place. So picking a good dealership is key to getting great service. My salesman took me over to the service department and introduced me to everyone and they gave me all the info, phone numbers of who to call if I had any problems, and shook my hand. I've bought well over 10 new cars in my life and no dealership has ever done that. I haven't used them yet as my first service was done on the road as I travel now. But they did call me and check up on me and I told them I had it serviced professionally and had the receipts and they said just come on by when I'm back in town and they would change to oil again if I wanted, even before the next service is due. I was impressed.

Yeah, OK. That is pretty funny.

You ain't getting a new set of tires because they didn't rotate them. No matter how much you demand. The tire company isn't going to know if you missed a rotation or two anyway.

They were immediately rotated when I pointed it out to my Service Advisor and the Service Manager.

I saw jackstands and was therefore contractually obligated to appear in this thread. Carry on...

I only say this because I tried to warranty a set of goodyears once, called the tire hotline and they wanted every receipt showing I had the tires rotated at a profession establishment every 5000 miles. I told them I had don't it and the tires failed way before 60000 miles. Ended up being denied. Morale of the story, I just thread jacked.

They wouldn't just let you take it to a tire shop and have them check for even wear?

No, incomplete rotation history as I had no receipts and therefore no proof that I had done it at all. If I remember right they failed at 35,000. I can't remember the type of tire it was but lost interest in Goodyear all together. My mother bought a set of Goodyears last summer, I seen them a month ago a told her she needed a new set because they were bald. Confirmed my thoughts about that brand. I'm sure some of you think they're the best thing since animal porn. Good for you.

GF took hers in for 10kmile oil change and tech dude just wiped off the oil leakage (thanks to Yoda's gaskets) and did nothing. Not even an oil change. Dude told the GF to go back at 15k miles for an oil change. What a waste of time I tell ya.
