Need to get this going again. I’ve been Bear hunting and if we had a Bear season I’d definitely hunt them with hounds but I mainly coon hunt.

I’ve been following coon hounds since the late 70’s and when I was young I mostly never had a decent dog. I guess that why even now in my older years I really appreciate a good hound. I have really enjoyed night hunting since I was a kid

How does one get started hunting with dogs? I keep looking, but only ever see how to train a dog - not train myself. That and learning to hunt whitetail, but I'm not interested in hunting just for myself.

I'm from the NJ suburbs so I know nothing about going hunting. I got my Treeing Walker kind of on a whim during the pandemic - she must have ended up in a shelter getting lost hunting. Originally had been broken off squirrel, but she's back on them, since well I didn't give her anything else to hunt. Having moved to Texas now, and getting her to be ok off-leash, I've been looking for more things to do together.

Beyond the obvious (hunters ed, license, shooting practice, knowing the season), how do *I* learn? She still has all the prey drive and tree instincts. I've been thinking of squirrel, rabbit, and/or shed hunting.
