A 7mm-.08 is a good caliber. I know a lot of guys that shoot them and its a good all around caliber. Marlins makin a good one for a good price. I'm partial to a model 760 30-06 carbine. All synthetic with a matte finish. I just beat hell outta it and my tasco scope. I've never had to move the clickers since I sighted it in 4 years ago.

I got a sweet deal on the scope. It is $120 regularly, but they had it miss labeled and gave it to me for $75. It is a Bushnell Bone collector 3-9x40

Thanks again for all the help.

exactly you can have a $1000 scope but if your rings are $1 then that scope aint gonna do you any good, but a tip of advice dont do any 100-300 yard shots on anything over 5 power

Took it to the range today. Put 20 rounds through it did pretty good all shots were within 3" of center. It was blowing probably 30mph so it will need a calmer day to fine tune. I also took my dads .38 special but ended up having a ammo malfunction that ruined it. I was going pretty quick on the trigger and had a shell with no powder in it. The primer pushed the slug half wat through the barrel and the next bullet cracked the barrel in 6 places and expanded in the tip. Hopefully it sounds like academy will replace the gun. But I learned it is a collectors item gun now so might actually make some money off it.

    Deer mostly

great choice on the marlin. I have a Marlin .22 Mag that i got as my first gun 7 years ago and it still shoots great, best varmint gun i will ever own. The thing could drive nails and I have a range adjustable Simmons scope on that. I was gonna recommend you a Ruger 77, i have .308 with a Nikon scope that i hadn't shot in 2 years but i went out with my buddies and that was still hitting pop cans at 100 yards haha but the Marlin is just as good
