yup. i grew up with gun freaks. one guy ended up living near me. this guy is a self taught long range shooter/hunter. he has a slightly modified remington that i saw him shoot 6" thousand yard groups. blew me away, he could shoot like that with a "regular" rifle. 7mm. with some hagumaw fancy ass scope.

he told me the Tikka is the best barrel out there. and for a out of the box rifle..that is the one. the 308 is a great round.

i want one, a new rifle..it will be a Tikka. thinking up a round is the tough part for me. not so sure i want to jump back into the reloading pool.

THat is a good idea. I think I will hook up at the local range. Really the only rifles I am familiar with are the FN C1, sportco 308 and some random odds and ends. Curious to try the 270 in anything. I am hoping to get out over the next month. Tuff with a newborn!

Got out to the range today.
    Tried out

    Tikka 270
    Sako 30-06
    Mosin 7.62
    Savage 300

The sako was the nicest by far. The tikka right there. I think I will be picking up a Tikka t3 stainless in 308 in the new year
The mosin just for fun was really cool.

You should check out CZ as well. Although I have only ever used their .22 bolt action if quality and accuracy are the same on their larger calibers then they can shoot a hair off a gnats tit. My roommate uses one for squirrel hunting and I have seen him shoot out the eye at 200ish yards. Very impressive for a .22lr

Sako makes Tikka. The 308 is a nice medium cartridge.

For a hunting rifle, the Kimber montana has no peer, I bought one used in 300wsm and had it rebarreled to a 7wsm. I have several custom remingtons that I have had built and if I were starting over I would be in Kimber Montana mode......

For a play gun (safe queen, range toy) the 700 gets the nod, there are so many aftermarket options that it just makes since to go that route
