Brought my Christmas gift this time, 360 camera. Hoping to get a cool video where I can see me taking the shot, my sons reaction and the animal going down, all at the same time.

Hope everyone is having a good season. My youngest took an axis last week and my son in law took this nice 10 pt. We'll call it payment for taking so many culls and does the last few years. The axis alone loaded up a freezer shelf. 74lbs of meat off it.

I'm thinking we're only taking one more for a mix of sausage and jerky. We're pretty well stocked already. But time will tell. We have a lot of deer and they need to be thinned.

Every year I take a hunter that has never harvested a deer. to my ranch, and introduce them to the awesome outdoors, and educate them on the importance of hunting and harvesting animals to eat. This year I took an immigrant that works with me. He came to this country when he was 10 from a country that just started down the Socialist road (not a political... but a basis for this story). He is about to turn 40, and has never touched a gun before. His country didn't allow the common folks to have guns.

Fast forward to 2020.... He approached me (as he knew I was a gun guy) and asked a lot of questions about guns and the ability to protect his family. As we talked he became interested in hunting for his own food, and that's when I knew I found a new convert to the ways of hunting.

We went to the gun range and went through all the basics of safety and the different calibers we could use for this first hunting adventure. After shooting several calibers, he chose the 300 BO. This rifle he was using is a Remington 700 SS, B&C stock, Timney trigger, 21" Kreiger 1:18 twist HV barrel, and SWFA 3-15 scope in Nightforce rings.
It shoots very nice (specially for having 4300 rounds down the barrel). It shoots a 125 SST at 2400 fps.

Our scheduled hunt was this weekend. however, last weekend when the cold front was moving in, and my son cancelled our trip down there, I called him asked if he wanted to go early. This actually worked out great as his wife just landed a job (after being without work for 3 months) and she was to start that next weekend.

I explained to him that this was a management hunt, and we were after does or spikes only, and that I would prefer to look for spikes. Day 1, hunt 1, and the deer did not disappoint. We saw 6 does that morning, and about 9:00 we were going to head back to camp. Just as we stood up to start packing up our gear, the 1 horned spike that we have been seeing, decide to show up. within 45 seconds, we sat back down, got the rifle out the window, and he placed a perfect shot on him right in the bread basket. He went about 30 yards, and expired. It was AWESOME to see the enjoyment of that hunt.

These pics are of him after climbed out of the stand, and again after we loaded up his spike in the Ranger.
The spike weight 102 pounds on the hoof.

After this hunt, he said.... This is why America is the greatest country on the face of the earth.

Yes sir. We saw soooo many deer on that back hill that weekend. the rut was full on. We must have seen 6 nice bucks chasing doe all over the place. It was an amazing hunt for someone's first time. i wished all my hunts i could see that many deer. We stuck around an extra day just to see how many more we could see.
