My suggestion to finding huntable public land is get subscription to Onx hunt app and use the various public land overlays as a starting point cross reference with fish and game harvest reports for counties. The obvious is to try and hunt weekdays when you can. Don't be afraid to put a lot of miles on your boots even if it means walking past the obvious sign near the truck if you see it everyone else did to. Also don't be afraid to try tiny slivers of land those often get overlooked because of their size.

I hunt in between Stonewall and Fredericksburg North of 290. Not seeing as many deer as we usually see. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Blue tongue hit really really hard in my area last year. So we are seeing very few deer.

Well lads after hunting a multiple days since rifle opening and seeing nothing but doe or nothing at all I tagged a 8 point tonight. Initial glass and inspection at roughly 200yards everything looked good, one shot two steps and down. On walk up I noticed he was narrower than anticipated and after a few pucker minutes to retrieve a tape measure came out at a 13" 1/4. This time around the ear estimate was a little too close for comfort even with some safety space.

We did not have any bucks on our pics this year, just a few does. But the does brought in this guy one day...

    01mulie.jpg

Here he is at the processor...

    mulie02.jpg

This is a great mule deer for the area that we hunt, took him down with a Tikka 243.
