Day 3 started off GREAT!!!! Another doe at 125 yards. 4 were passing through around 7:20 and @Beretta4x4 spotted them and 5 mins later, he took care of business with my 300 BO shooting the 150grn Speer Gold Dot at 2100fps.

Now time to get busy cleaning it.

    same logic as:
And using pneumatic tools to work on trucks isn't the way real men do it too.

This is Josh's first time to deer hunt. Using a rifle to shoot your first deer at 100ish yards isn't as easy as it sounds. hitting paper at 100 yards is much easier. But when you make a decision to take the animals life in order to feed your family, its a different ball game. Buck fever is a real thing (even with does). ask Josh.

In Texas, we have counties as big as PA (not literally... ) and the deer hunting here is much different than other states. We have soooooo many deer here that taking a certain number each year IMPROVES the herd. I hunt in a 5 deer county. There is a reason this county allows you to harvest 5 deer. The natural food source for these deer isn't as plentiful each year. I have 6 hunters on our section, and we each run a 1100 pound feeder that we fill up 3 times a year. That's roughly 3000ish pounds of feed a year EACH. We use a soybean and corn mix. it's 18% -22% protein and (according to the neighbors biologist) has kept the herd alive some years when we are in extreme drought.

I don't like confrontation, but I also don't like people telling me that the way I hunt is not right.

We saw 11 deer this hunt, 50% of them were not even walking toward the feeder area. Josh's 2nd doe he harvested was walking in a completely different direction of the feeder area.

I've heard it this way, "deer are either coming from the kitchen or going to the kitchen" when you understand that you are a better deer hunter. Just cuz its not legal in your state doesnt mean its not in others.

I've been hunting for 40+ years, so I completely understand the need to harvest "x" amount of animals. I never stated that the way you hunt is not right. I simply stated I don't consider harvesting game over a feeder "hunting". That's my opinion. Others obviously do and that's fine.

I apologize for getting defensive, but also for allowing you to draw me offsides. I don't know you in the least, and odds are our paths will never cross. Your opinions are just that. I should have respected them, and kept my mouth shut.

I have been hunting now for 40+ years also. I shot my first deer at 12, and I am 53. I also like the challenge of bow hunting, and mostly hunt that way. After xxx number of deer, the thrill of putting the cross hairs and pulling the trigger doesn't get the old ticker pumping like it used to. This year my "trophy" buck was harvest at 42 yards ( my longest distance to date) and it was an awesome hunt for sure. That memory will stay with me.

I can also tell you that Josh will never forget this weekend, and THAT is was what I set out to accomplish.
