I'm game if we want to have a Hurricane Creek run. I last did it on New Years Day with @Gen2Tacoma and @FirstGenTundra 2 years ago. Its a few months out, but I would recommend around that same time since college football is starting back up. Fall weekends are usually pretty booked.

Right on. I am down in the area so I might check it out. Where does the trail dump out? I am going to be leaving from there to go back to KY so 40w eventually.

It’ll circle you back out to HWY 209. You take that south and it’ll put you back on I40 at exit 24

there is another route at the end of the trail that puts you at the next exit down. Can’t remember the number though. Exit 24 has a pilot gas station so it’s an easier exit for the end of the day to fuel up and hit the road

That’s not too bad. It’s a few hours long if a trail correct? Not sure I am going to be able to sell it to my wife when we still have to drive back to Cincinnati.

You can do it in 2-3 hours if you keep moving. After the first mile or so it’s smooth forest service type road. There’s a couple spots at the end that aren’t smooth and graded but the first mile is the part that will make you slow down.

it’s a beautiful trail. I definitely recommend it.

Awesome! Thanks for all the info. How bad is the pin striping?

Last time I was out there it ain’t bad at all. Trail isn’t overgrown. But that being said, it’s been a couple years since I’ve run it. I did used to work along side the forest service and I know they keep it maintained cause there’s actually a couple of houses on the trail early on.

Doesn’t look like we will have time to run it. Going to max patch and buzzards roost. I really am not prepared to run it alone. I don’t have anything besides traction boards right now and running solo seems dumb. Next time.

I totally get that. It's absolutely doable solo but there is nearly no service the entire way so if something did happen you'd be in for a hike. I had the luxury of living close by to the trail.

Max patch is incredible. Got its name from a horse (obviously named Max) who's favorite place to graze was that exact spot. Super easy hike up and beautiful views, especially as the leaves begin to turn in the fall.

    Enjoy the trip!

Thanks. We did max patch and I wanted to do buzzards roost but we rant out of time. I think early next year I will be down for it when I can get my bumper and winch in. Probably some tires as well. Max Patch was amazing! Can’t describe it another way. Just phenomenal.

I would classify with at least 2" of lift and 32" tires. There was one section toward the end that was very rutted out and muddy. I was thankful that I had momentum and two other trucks when we ran it last.

    Skid plate also advisable:

This was probably the most technical part of the trail:
    https://www.instagram.com/p/CJcHuYjnbqu/

Mark (@Gen2Tacoma) made it look easy, but the 3 of us probably analyzed that spot for a good 5 minutes before deciding the best approach.

Hard to believe those videos are 3 years old (which means the conditions have likely changed).

Damn That was fun. Not Sure I would recommend a December trip solo though. Temps were falling fast that day and we needed to get off that trail pretty quick by the time we were done. Great Memories for sure! How you been bro!

Trail Report from yesterday: trail is in pretty good shape. In about three or four spots, I’d recommend a good look over and finding a line before starting through/ over the obstacle. Knowledgable spotter is a bonus.

Most of the seemingly benign small mud puddles along the way have a vertical drop into them, bottomed out a few times.

    Stock OR, to include tires.

How is the pin striping on this trail? Is it pretty tight?

It’s been a while now, but I don’t remember it being too bad. Definitely not as bad as some of the FS roads we run around here.

Also, it you’re up for multi-day, Gaia shows several offshoots in the area, but I’ve got no experience with any of those.

Should be minimal to zero. It's not a tight trail like that.
