Wow, stay safe everyone. I had no idea there was a big storm coming until I saw it on the front page of Yahoo today. It was 85 and sunny here today. Some really strange weather all around the country.

Of course, hope all goes well for those in the path of Sandy.

I've been through five hurricanes, the worst being Hugo (a category 5 Cape Verde-type hurricane, category 4 during landfall at my location). Due to the extensive damage (21 dead, 100,000 homeless, in just South Carolina alone), the name Hugo was retired afterwards, never to be used again for an Atlantic hurricane. Most (not all) of that damage was limited to a block or two of the beach.

Never evacuated during any of those storms. Stayed less than a mile inland during Hugo. Slept soundly through pretty much the whole thing, except for a few minutes to check conditions during the projected worst of the storm. Got up early the next morning to drive around to see the extent of the damage (and to check on the homes of friends or family). An amazing amount of that damage along the beach - large areas of sand where houses once stood, roads gone due to erosion, piers gone, some houses picked up & moved inland, debris everywhere, and so on. Remainder of the town looked fairly normal except for occasional downed store signs, fallen tree branches, or shingles blown off roofs.

stay safe and good luck everyone! My GF's brother is supposed to fly back to NY tonight but his flight out of Los Angeles was cancelled. There are no flights until Wednesday for him, so he's stuck in Los Angeles for the next three days.

Have power.. right now. Getting ready to head to work. Standby mode I guess.
Looks like I'll be busy for the next several weeks.
I doubt I'll have power when I get home today. That's if I'm able to get home.
That surge is supposed to be worse than 1938 and my late father told me about that one.
    Stay safe all.
