A couple of years ago I removed the OEM mud flaps and replaced those with the Husky mug guards (great mod).

At the same time I also replaced the OEM Step Tubes with OEM Running Boards. My only reason for installing them was to protect the lower portion of my truck from dings/chips from gravel while traveling on forest/logging roads during hunting season. I really don't use them at all for stepping into my truck or accessing the rack on my cap, and they're really a pain while exiting the truck (legs hit them).

As the Husky's are not as low (thankfully) as the OEM mud flaps. For anyone who has the Husky Mud Guards with no step tubes and/or running boards....do the Husky's protect the lower door/rocker panels/real flares from chips & dings from gravel?

I'm really wanting to ditch the running boards if I can.

nope. right where your calf lands when stepping outta the vehicle is where grit will bounce with shorter mud flaps like husky or weathertech (from below, mid-door to door handle will get peppered)

the only solution for realz is a good mild acid scrubbing (vinegar) to clean the bejeesus out of it, and apply clear plastic paint protection layer that will take the punishment, or bedliner, or huge mudflaps

Thanks....the timing is ironic as I just ran an errand for lunch and the roads are very sloppy/slushy from this latest storm.

That exact spot you mentioned had a big slush/ice wart (as I like to call them) built up on the bottom of the running board.

Guess I'll be keeping them on for the protection.

I'd switch out the front OEM flaps in a heartbeat. I've had my front Husky flaps on for two years now and drive on dirt access roads frequently. I might hear more random stones hit, but it's not that much different and my paint is still perfect after two years with no plastic wrap or anything. Those OEM flaps rubbed over everything and I was worried about them ripping off and damaging my fender flares.

I've heard of these haven't seen them though. I understand they're shorter and molded differently. Can someone share some pictures? :D

Not sure how your paint can be perfect , I have rock chips everywhere including up on the doors and mirrors from gravel roads and I only trimmed a couple inches off the stock flaps plus rocks would ring off the doors with the flaps at stock length
