So by jump start do you mean smacking the piss out of it with a hammer? Not sure how else you’re going to “jump start” a seized compressor.

They basically put a second capacitor on it so that it has an overabundance of starting current.

At that age just replace it. It'll pay off when you sell in the future and provide incentive for a buyer. My realtor thinks I'm nuts for asking for a house with a newer roof and HVAC. Big expenses.

Check with Costco too. They contract with someone local and will give you a percentage back on a Costco cash card. The last house I bought, the previous owners did that and spent 12-15k. All Lennox elite, new ducting, attic insulation, second return vent. I added the Lennox whole house filter with UV bulb. Really nice components. I should've kept that house. :annoyed:

...if this is shorter term, perhaps look on your local Facebook marketplace for a used one, and pay the HVAC guy to trade em out.

Enjoy it, you'll be glad you got all new. It should have a lengthy warranty, but might require a basic maintenance plan to keep it valid.

Thanks. Right now I'm watching some wild ass strongman walk my old concrete pad out of the back yard. o_O I guess the new condenser is a larger footprint. Meanwhile they are sawing my furnace into tiny pieces like it's a body needing to be disposed. ... Cool, but how are y'all going to fit the new one into the same space?

Good call getting the system replaced.
    Sorry about the expense.

If the compressor fails it can put contaminants in the system, which can then take out the replacement.

The answer is "partially disassemble the water heater." The sound of hissing gas means open more beers until it's not a worry.
