A Rav4 Limited has a curb weight of 3640 and a Hybrid limited has a curb weight of 3800. I don't think 160lbs is a significant difference in weight. The pack sits in the dead space under the rear seat. That's not a large area either.

There is a lot of misinformation floating around including that hybrids have huge battery packs. They really don't. That Hybrid limited has an approximately 1kwh battery. That's not a big battery at all especially considering it's in an SUV.

Gas only vehicle vs Hybrid transmission vehicle comparison
    * Table edited for readability.

    MPG
    Gas - 28
    Hybrid - 39

    HP
    Gas - 203
    Hybrid - 219

    Transmission
Gas - Lots of clutches and gears
Hybrid - 2 brushless motors and a single planetary gearset

    Alternator
Gas - With brushes that wear
Hybrid - N/A (uses brushless motors in transmission)

    Starter
Gas - With brushes that wear
Hybrid - N/A (uses brushless motors in transmission)

    Airconditioner
Gas - Serpentine belt and clutch
    Hybrid - Brushless motor

    Annual 12Km fuel
    Gas - $1285
    Hybrid - $923

    Cost difference
    +$1650 for hybrid

    Payoff = 4.5 years
    - This assumes the 39mpg EPA estimate and $3.00 gas. I get 43-45mpg in mixed driving, so my payoff is 3.6 years.

The complete list of components I have personally had prematurely fail on vehicles
    - Transmission
    - Starter
    - Alternator
    - AC clutch

I work with brushless motors daily at work, they are some of the most reliable devices we use.

The battery system has a 10-year factory warranty from Toyota, and they last far longer (look on Prius forums for information).

You do you, but personally I will gladly take the vehicle with more horsepower, less clutches, less moving parts, and less wear components (= more reliable). AND have money leftover in my pocket from the fuel savings.

You clearly have your own agenda and no valuable input.

I just don't like the name of it. RAV 4... That's just weird. I think it's a good looking, "reasonably" priced, reliable vehicle.

I got no dog in the fight but the issue of environmental damage is something to consider.

Gas and/or Electric no way around it both are detrimental in one form or fashion to the environment.

But with gas it's damaging coming and going.
With electric sure there are issues creating those batteries but it's a one-way issue.
Pumping oil, transporting oil, refining oil, and burning gas all create issues.
Making those batteries create issues but that's the end of the line on that note.

Doesn't really matter, at this point in the game the environment is going to hell in a hand-basket and it can't be stopped.

I remember reading some where RAV4 stands for Recreational Adventure Vehicle 4wheels (for AWD). I could be wrong.

We have a RAV4 Hybrid and love it, my wife is constantly averaging 39-40 around town. First thing you need to know, it only gets that kind of mpg in the city, if you do a lot more highway driving it comes down alittle bit because the ICE runs a lot more and trust me that 2.5 trying to maintain 70-75 it’s running. But still 37 on the interstate, not bad. But after having it now, and reading more about the PrimePHEV I’d get that if I would do it over. The Prime can run 45 miles on electric alone, if you don’t want to plug it up you can run it like a hybrid using both engines, if you need to charge the battery the engine can run majority and charge the battery up to 85%. But if you go over to the rav4 forums guys are getting 300-400k on the hybrids and the dudes with the 2018 still on the same batteries. The only thing you need to worry about is the cable gate, if you are buying used stay away from the 2018-2020 unless they have had the replacement cable or they haven’t been up north.

If anyone wants to further reading. Toyota has sold me on HV, working on them, has proven to be very minimal maintenance and we see actual crazy mileage.

Impact is fine as long as the product doesnt fail like the cheap EV only cars with massive cells.

    https://energyminute.ca/news/toyotas-1690-rule-the-case-for-hybrids/

TLDR: Toyota would rather make 90 HV cars instead of 6 Plug in HV or 1 single EV for the same resources.

To be fair this is not rock solid information, but it gets the point across.

    Can you rent these things?

    Before settling on a Forester back in 2017 I rented a Rav4, a Nissan, and a Subaru.

Liked the Rav4 for sure but couldn't see to the end of the hood as the seats sat so low.
Liked the Subaru a lot better and have been very happy with it.

So if you are really on the fence and if available rent one and then the other for a week and see how you like it.
