I recently upgraded the wheels on my 2025 Tacoma Trd off-road premium hybrid and replace the factory 18 inch rims with 17 inch wheels. I know that Toyota has done a recall on the brake lines, but it only covers for the non-hybrids with 17” rims. Today, as I was checking out the clearance between the brake lines on my wheels I noticed that the space is not much. I’m a bit concerned, especially since off-roading and snowy conditions can cause buildup of snow and dirt in the wheel well. Has anyone else changed wheels on their hybrid from 18 to 17 inch? What was your solution to getting the brake lines out of the way of the wheels?

Toyota replaced the brake lines with shorter ones, and routed further away from the wheel. Hard to tell from your photos, but looks like your good to go. If your worried stop by your dealer.

About an inch clearance and closer to the outside edge of the wheel not inside same height as the dust shield.

Toyota has expanded this recall for vehicles with 18” as well. I don’t know if the hybrid is included, though.

My new one looks the same, and is the same height as the dust shield.

I’ve got a 25 trd off-road hybrid and swapped to 17” wheels and so far no issues with the brake line

Have you been out in the mud yet?
Problem only occurs when you get debris (mud, rock, ice...) stuck to the inside of the wheels.

Well, Toyota spec’d 18s on the hybrids for a reason. If you don’t feel comfortable with the brake line clearance, buy some 18s.

I just don’t understand “I put smaller wheels on my truck and now I’m worried about my brake lines”.

I also have 17 inch wheels. Been in a lot of mud and snow, zero issues before new shorter brake lines were installed. Don’t worry about it, there was 1 known failure.
