Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.

End of the story: I hydro-locked my engine, and then likely bent some internals trying to turn it over.

Been taking the engine apart this weekend. Went to remove the crank pulley, and after breaking the bolt loose I had to reposition the mark I made (it shifted while I was wrenching on it). Surprised as hell when it turned *past* my mark, and went for another full rotation -- I was 100% positive it was utterly immobilized, likely due to a bent valve. So I bolted a few critical things back on, hooked the battery up, and spun the starter. Engine turned effortlessly two or three times, shooting some oil out of the cylinders. And then it stopped dead, again. This time it won't even turn backwards, much less forward. COMPLETELY immobilized.

So here's my predicament. If it's bent internals, it shouldn't rotate at all, much less several times via the starter. If it's hydrolock, it should turn with the plugs pulled and the intake manifold removed. And yet here I have both. Wtf??

So my question to y'all is: Wtf is going on here? Anyone with a better idea than myself whether this is symptomatic of hydrolock? Or is it what I've been thinking all along- a bent valve, and possibly a bent rod?

I ask, because if it's hydrolock and I can get it to spin again without further disassembly, I would MUCH prefer to do that and keep the factory motor intact. But if it's bent internals, I want to at least take the suspect head off and see if it's top end or bottom end, then determine my course of action from there. My main thing is I don't want to unnecessarily disassemble an engine that doesn't need it.
