    Hello all,

I drove my 4Runner (95 SR5 V6 3.0L Standard Transmission) through a giant puddle, water came over the hood then it sucked water in through the air intake. I did all the wrong things- Tried to start it right away and it sounded like the engine just stalled (no loud bang but a dim clunk). We towed it out and tried to bump start it (at the time I didn't know to take spark plugs out immediately). It did not start so we towed it back to the house. No holes in the engine so I assume it didn't throw a rod but might have bent one or two. We were not going very fast through the puddle, low second gear in 4WD.

I took out all the spark plugs, drained the oil, removed the air intake, water in all of the oil and air intake. Tried turning the main crank and its frozen solid. From there took out the starter, it works fine, and filled the pistons with Marvel Mystery Oil through the spark plug holes to sit. It sat about a week while continually trying to turn the crank (everything in neutral). Nothing. Just towed it down the street and threw it into gear to try to break it loose. Wheels seemed to turn but when parked, still can't move the crank.

My assumption is the engine is toast but wanted to ask if anyone had any last hope/thoughts on what to do.

    Thank you!

Yikes. You’re gonna do a full engine rebuild or replacement.

If u can drop the oil pan u should be able to see what’s going on. Sounds like a bent rod or locked main cap on crank.
But I willing to bet it bent a rod with water packed it there, creating to much pressure.

Do you ever have to smog it? Are you handy and can handle pulling a motor and some minor soldering? If not in a smog county then just do a 3.4 swap on the cheap(piece meal), if you do have to smog then buy a whole donor vehicle and swap the 3.4 and all the smog equipment over.

I have done a few swaps and they were barely more expensive than a 3vze rebuild. But on each one the 3.4 was in good shape and didnt require any work.

My 94 4runner was a completely different rig after the swap. Could hold 4th pulling grades. My current 93 swap has a supercharger and is way too fast.

    Welcome!

Sorry about your ride, but it sounds like your engine is toast. You could tear it apart and see if it can be rebuilt, or you can replace it.

You need a new motor, a rod or 2 are folded sideways up in a cylinder. Welcome to TW and good luck OP.
