New to me 09 Tacoma (77k miles). I noticed the DRL/Turn signal headlights are burnt, one is cracked. After researching the issue I realized that the previous/original owner either didn’t get or ignored the recall/replacement offer or maybe he did and the same thing happened with the replacement. It appears the option available is to buy new headlights out of pocket. Affording these may be several months.

Not wanting it to get worse I replaced the halogen bulbs with LEDs yesterday and now I have hyperflash. After watching this video on how to fix it

    https://youtu.be/X_EiDTDQDB0

my question is…when I do replace the headlight assembly will this issue crop up again or will this fix specific to the DRL/turn signal prevent any further hyperflash issues?

    thanks!

The newer OE headlights do not have the melting issue. If you gonna run leds you’ll need to add a resistor or you’ll have the hyper flash when using the turn signal.

Either buy the LED compatable relay, install resistors or take apart the OEM relay and use a diagonal cutter (dykes) to make a cut into the thick resistance bar. Don't cut all the way through just make a nice deep gouge into the metal.

I replaced my headlight assemblies in my 2011 a couple of months ago. I, nor anyone I know with the same vintage truck received notification of the DRL TSB. I learned that the part number for the TSB assemblies that fix the melting DRL had been discontinued and replaced with the original part number at every dealer I checked with. Being that I could not determine if the original non TSB assemblies i received would melt and crack again, I opted for an LED replacement. I went with utilizing a resistor as opposed to swapping the flasher.
