Odd, random question here, but my fiancé’s sister just bought a Hyundai suv after going against my advice to get a rav 4 or corolla cross. I’ve never paid any attention at all to Hyundai’s as a whole, but typically speaking as a brand, how reliable are they?

I'd say they're great; My friend bought a CPO 2019 Santa Fe at the end of 2019 and he's got almost 50K miles on it!

IMO 50k miles is not an adequate test. However, I hear the late model Hyundais (Hyundaii?) and Kias are pretty good.

Oddly enough look at where Honda is, worse than Jeep, Dodge, Mini...

I know 3 people with different models of Hyundais/Kia’s. 2019-2020 that have had engines replaced already… they’re not great cars if you plan on keeping long term. But they’re fine if you keep them during the warranty window.

My Ex GFs Son has an older Hyundai, besides plowing into a guard-rail with it and burning up the clutch it's been pretty decent.

A friend has a Sante Fe with about 90k miles and it's been reliable. He seems to like it a lot. Came with a lot of features for the money.

There was someone that put over a million miles on an Elantra. Even had the original powertrain throughout all of it too.

There's an ongoing class action lawsuit against Hyundai for some of their engines having crank bearing problems and locking up. I have five family members who drive Hyundai's and three of them have blown an engine. All of them had the engine replaced by the manufacturer at no cost, but there's also stories of people having a really bad experience after the engine goes out. A friend of mine who owns a repair shop says that you shouldn't own it past 90k. I wouldn't tell my family members to sell theirs though. At this point they have brand new engines and the rest of the car is great for what you get

Hyundai is now what Honda was in the 80’s and 90’s. I own a Honda Pilot and will never touch one of their products again. But I’d gladly buy a Hyundai if my kids were still small and I needed an SUV. In fact, I’d go there first and probably not look any further.

    She made the right choice.

And that is their big strong point. Their warranty window is well beyond what the average person will put on any car before getting rid of it. 10 years/100,000 miles. Nobody else can come close to that.

Yup. offer a great warranty. because they know they need it to sell them. if they're not a car people plan on keeping for a long time, they make for ok vehicles.

with the miles we put on our cars.. Toyota still. the Hyundai warranty would be up in 2 years with my father. oof
