I get they have a cult following, but they dont do it for me. Asthetically they are , well, blah. Also the ones I see are usually driven by females and it seems they are vomited on by an inordinate amount of "I'm outdoorsy" type stickers.

I remember looking at the FJ years ago. Sat in it and really didn't care for the lack of visibility.
Before I picked up my current Tacoma, I really wanted to make a 4Runner for me and my needs. I just couldn't do it without a bed. I use my bed often and when I need it, I need it. If you can make it work without the Tacoma and the FJ is what you want, go for it. I've seen some sick looking FJ's around locally and I think they'd make awesome off road vehicles, with Toyota reliability.

I like them when they're lifted and built up some, but stock FJ Cruisers look like life size Lego cars to me. I always imagine seeing a giant Lego man driving them

Exactly!!! My wife also has one, we LOVE the FJ, but getting older friends or family in the back is no fun due to the half doors. We also have a Taco DCSB.
Decision depends on what you do with it.. either way, both are very dependable.

What the heck buy one of each a Tacoma, FJ Crusier, and a 4Runner. Seriously each one is different and has it use. If I had to sell one I would have a hard time choosing which one to sell.

Yeah I hear ya. I've seen a few real cool lifted ones. When done right they look solid.

Before you buy any FJ check the front fender mounts. They are made of glorified tin foil and everyone I've seen are cracking and breaking. google "fj cruiser front fender cracking" to see the problem. Personally I would have bought an FJ instead of my truck, but my wife thought they were ugly and impractical. Have I said my wife is smarter than me? My Tacoma is one of the best, most practical vehicles I've ever owned. The FJ looks cooler and if I had the money I buy one, but for a daily driver the Tacoma wins by a landslide.

Well it looks like the underside of the FJ wasn’t that well maintained. First pic is of the underside of my Tacoma. Second is the FJ. Both same model year

That's a good indicator that maybe the rest of the maintenance wasnt top notch.... I'd have to pass on that one after seeing that.

I can tell you right now that with active kids and a large dog, the tacoma will be much more accommodating than the FJ. My DCLB with softopper along with a bed rack is more than enough to haul my 7 and 12 yo boys, wife , and a 65lb goldendoodle puppy on long trips without any issues. Theres no way that can happen in an FJ comfortably or safely if the dog is not in a cage.

Fj cruiser is a great truck. Had one since 2007. Only cons for me is driving in heavy highway traffic, the blind spots make you do a lot more work when switching lanes... they are pretty terrible.

I know that looks horrendous at first glance, but I bet much of it’s just surface rust

I did the FJ and Tundra route. Would recommend.
