Yes. You wouldn’t want that truck back if they fixed it. So, lose/win.

typically when airbags deploy, it's almost always going to be totaled. part of the reason is the additional expense of replacing the airbags, seat belts, modules, and in many cases, the main wiring harnesses that lead to the air bags(the wires and connectors typically self-destruct with the power levels flowing through them on deployment, so in many cases they're one-time-use).

but the other reason airbag deployment generally also signifies to insurance agencies to total a vehicle is that the impact to trigger most systems is severe and jarring, and that can lead to a number of mechanical complications with tweaked/twisted structural components. there's also the massive liability concern on the insurance side-- they need to warranty the work, and a jarring impact of that size can easily have twisted or bent structural members in ways that aren't immediately visible, but if they chose to repair the vehicle without addressing the tweaked structural components, it could cause more significant loss of control or loss of life later on that they would be entirely on the hook for.

Thanks for the great explanation, still heartbroken loved that truck and it had some sentimental significance that will never be replicated with a new one.

Looks fairly stock? Should be able to find another 2021 with similar mileage? There were quarter million Tacomas sold in 2021.

just sent the pic to my bodyshop manager...
    He seems to think total...
If the frame was bent doesnt mean it automatically gets totaled.
Cost of truck is so high these days, we do frame swaps for insurance companies all day long on f150's & other trucks...
    atleast a few a month...

I'll just go ahead and state the obvious. The truck can be replaced you and anybody else in the vehicle probably can't be replaced. Keep it in perspective.

My early Tacoma was totaled recently. I can really understand the memories part; it was almost new when I bought it, a quarter-century of memories. My wife and I dated and were engaged in that truck (literally), and all four of our kids grew up riding in it, from infancy. My oldest son was heartbroken because he really wanted it. We've taken "guy trips" in it the last several years, just the boys and I, to some of the most beautiful places in our part of the country.

That old truck was part of the family, but it was still just a truck, and we're lucky to be alive.
