Going to be heading to Sequoia National Park via 395.

My wife and I are going to take side adventures as well so we're looking to camp somewhere free Friday night. Any suggestions would be awesome. I'm also trying to find a BLM map but no luck.

    Thanks

    New detail.

What's the best place near a lake? We want to go fishing and swimming.

Alabama Hills and Bishop area have tons of options. You can head up to Bodie Ghost Town area as well. There's Glamping options in Mammoth. June Lake is awesome too.

If I were you I would find a map and have a good look at it. You can not access Sequoia N.P. from 395 (unless you plan to hike over the Sierras). You will absolutely enjoy a trip up/down 395 as there is much to do and see. But if your goal is Sequoia, you'll need to drive the west side of the Seirra.

back when i was in college, one of my classes required that we do a weekend trip w/ the class up off the 395. The professor found us a camp spot on the eastern side of 395 on cottonwood road. The road lead up to a dead end near a creek and that night I remember being able to see the full moon rise across the valley overlooking Owens Lake. Really beautiful location

i just reread my post it's on the western side of 395 NOT eastern (that would be lake owens) LOL

If you do decide to go, let me know how it is maybe some photos, I've always wanted to get back out there, such a secluded and nice location
