I am the first to bash tech bullshit, but today some douche nozzle looked right at me and then pulled out in front of me. I watched it happen, and my Taco was on the brakes and beeping at me faster than I could get my feet to the clutch and brakes.

I more than likely would have avoided hitting the fool on my own, but I will say that was pretty damn impressive!

I’m glad someone had a good experience with it today lol, I was using my adaptive cruise control on the highway a couple hours ago and it slammed the brakes on for no reason. Flat, two lane highway without a single car in sight. At least it helps sometimes!

I’ve had this happen before with the big red BRAKE! message on the dash..

I take it as my Taco is telling me “Pay attention dumbass!”

It got me home in my wife's rav4 at 3am after a family emergency. I should have pulled over but it assisted me during a lapse of judgement.

Who knows how many drunk drivers these aids have helped? It's hard to say.

I don't care for them, but they are 100% needed now.

I've had it happen also. The truck was a split second ahead of me and I was paying attention. My variable cruise works great too, but I have a manual so obviously no gear hunting.

Not me! I hate the adaptive cruise and automatic braking! I don't know how I have survived all this time without this crap.

I use adaptive cruise and lane departure assist when I'm eating while driving, otherwise I keep them turned off. I prefer regular cruise when I'm not doing stuff while driving.

Problem in Michigan is since they made dope legal there are stoned idiots going 45 MPH on the highway while everybody else is going 80.

I was believer first time it saved me and have only had one false alarm, when the highway made a sharp turn and there was a less than ideal guardrail that was close to the road side right at the bend. Not sure who put that there, I’d rather go in to the ditch then head on in to that thing.

I had that issue for the first time last week on the interstate somewhere between SLC and Vegas - it didn't slam on really hard, but was kind of like it was tapping the brakes regularly - I put it down to the wavy uneven road, so turned off the adaptive CC until the road got better, and it hasn't happened since.

I guess it can be fooled by the state of the road

Interesting. Mine applied the brakes at what felt like 100%. I was driving through a road where there was some sand blowing around so I wonder if that contributed. Very light sand though, not like a sandstorm.

For all the posts I read about how all this "nanny" stuff is an insult to people's manhood, it's nice to read a positive comment for once. I don't know any one of us who are perfect and it's nice to have a backup for when we have that momentary lapse. A second set of eyes is never a bad thing.

Yup. Had it work for me once the first week I had the truck when I was paying attention. It's just a second quicker than you when it counts.

one second can be all it takes between a crash and a miss sometimes - if the technology is faster than me I'll take it all day long with all the bozos out there doing everything in a vehicle except paying attention.

Is there a way to shut off the adaptive cruise and make it regular cause I find it kind of scary when driving on the hyways. just saying.

    Yeah.
Yes, RTFM (I would tell you, but I don't know because I haven't RTFM).

A well-engineered safety system is invisible until it steps in and saves your bacon.

My wife’s Wrangler false-alarms too frequently, so the Toyota seems to have a better handle on this stuff than Stellantis.

Auto braking saved me this weekend. Was making a left turn off the highway then and another sharp left. The truck saw the on coming car sweep around the corner before I did. That extra braking distance allow the other car room to go by.
