I had to move an old TV to the E-Recycle yard. I threw it in back of the truck and just flipped the 3rd section of the 3-fold OEM cover open. Heading down the freeway, the wind caught it, flipped it closed which impacted the TV, snapping the cover at the hinges. It was being held on by 6 inches of plastic and flapping in the wind.

I heard the impact, looked in the rear view and pulled to the shoulder and made an abrupt stop.
I apologize to the guy behind me, I owe you clean undies I am sure.

I flipped the cover all the way open and latched it Like I should of in the first place.

Now I have 2/3rds of a cover, a pissed off wife and a lesson learned.

WORD OF WARNING, LATCH THOSE COVERS ALL THE WAY OPEN.

Thanks for the heads-up... FWIW, you can order just a panel and the necessary hardware parts to repair... will cost, may not be as expensive as first thought (hopefully will calm wife down a bit).

That’s one route... you could take the truck to the dealership, have the parts department (not service) determine which components need replacing. Or look at this site and do that yourself:

    https://parts.toyota.com/a/Toyota_2...-AT/_82786_6865927/COVER-TOP/674470-6559.html

Either way, once you have the parts list you can find discount parts online (my dealership will discount the parts at least 10% just for the asking).

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Probably what Toyota wants for the parts to fix the one you have, you could buy a new equal quality aftermarket cover.
It would be worth a check and see, if it was me in your shoes!

That same thing happen to me. I figured the cover was heavy enough that it would stay open by its own weight. Opened just the section by the tailgate so some plastic chairs would fit. Drove on the freeway and heard a LOUD slam. Pulled over right away. Luckily mine didn’t break, just slammed on the chairs. Lesson learned. Now i either open it all the way or bungee that section down so it doesnt fly closed. It does seem the cover is not as sealed as before though. I wish there was a way to adjust it so it can seal better.

If this is one of the parts you need, then for sure you may be better off finding one on Craigslist or a new aftermarket one.

Just get rid of it. They all leak and it just tells thieves you have something valuable in the bed of your truck. And if you don’t they just break in to find nothing.
