I'm sorry but watching that wheel slowly roll away into traffic is the funniest thing I've seen all day.

I saw Palm Trees and thought Southern California, then I saw Peoria on the sign and then knew it was somewhere in Arizona.

Damn brother, glad no injuries. Sucks. As a few others have said, probably SOL with any kind of legal action with the shop but as long as you have comprehensive coverage, should be ok.

Wheel safety is big time on my list. Whenever I have any work done relating to tires/wheels, I always make it a point to check re-do the lug torque as soon as I get it home. Hell, I've even taken the torque wrench with me and done it in the parking lot. I don't care what shop it is and how highly rated they are, I'll still double check that :poking:

Hope insurance comes through for you... :fingerscrossed:

Probably a good thing it was there. Traffic is always slow thru there.

I had a wheel from a 3/4 ton dodge go whipping past me about 60mph. That one would do some damage.

I had the ford dealer work on my mustang front end, when they put the upper arms back in they left out the cotter pins of the castle nuts. My right popped out at 50 mph, managed to get it to the side of the road, felt like I was running over bowling balls. I had the tow truck driver pop up the front end and crawled under knew immediately what had happened. The drivers side had maybe 1 thread left before I'd have been completely without steering.

Shops mess up, but with the ops time frame, pretty sure he's not going to get anything from his.

Yeah. Really thankful it was rush hour too. Otherwise that wheel would have absolutely caused an accident.

Probably boned with having the shop pay. We’ll see how farmers treats me.
I had to go through like seven phone menus to talk to someone. Can’t believe there isn’t just a button in the app ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Shop forgot to retighten lug nuts after the brake job. I had that happen TWICE on a worktruck. I avoid going to shops and garages since then. I do all my wrenching unless it is a job I really am not equipped for (thankfully, not a lot is falling into this category)

on both occasions, wheel did not fall off but truck was abnormally vibrating at highway speed, stopped on the side and saw the lug nuts were all loose. Shop did pay for damaged nuts and studs

After all is said and done with the insurance - beat the crap out of that shop via a scathing bad review on Yelp, Google, etc

I think my new policy after recent dealer service experiences (if I ever use them again) I am going to take my folding chair and some  and tell them I am going to sit and watch you work on my truck, will they flip over that?

I know from experience as a teen how that is, I was a lube tech at JL and some of the customers just stood in the door watching us tend to their car care needs. I did not mind because I was doing the job right

    God no, haha.

Close. Red Multi-Coat, Performance Wheels, White Interior, no front plate. Basically a twin of our Model 3.

Except our rear wheel is intact, thank god.

Called the shop. They should have some numbers for me soon. I need a new caliper in the front left to take care of the brake pull. The rear is pretty fucked. Drum and shoes on the back left are destroyed, they're trying to save the backing plate. They'll want to put a new drum on the right as well to avoid any issues (may as well, I think it's original and has 240,000 on it)

Any idea on cost for all that? At what point do you make an insurance claim? What a PITA.

Happened to me once, 40 years ago. It was my fault for putting snow tires on the truck and not snugging the lug nuts down. Was a 1968 Chevy pickup truck. Happened at night so the sparks flying high up into the air were pretty entertaining. Had a buddy in the truck who at the time was smoking a joint. Couldn't get the truck all the way off the road. Lucky for me a cop happened by and parked with his lights on so I could get under the truck and jack it up with a shitty bottle jack and a couple of concrete blocks. Took a lug nut off the other three wheels and put the spare on. The tire and wheel that came off went across the highway and got tangled up in the old cable type guard rail, which I guess was a blessing. It stopped right there and didn't go bouncing down the wrong lane. Cop didn't smell the dope on my buddy and let us limp back home. Didn't take the truck to a shop and drove it for at least 6 years after that. The buddy smoking the joint is now the president of a local CPAP company and I'm not. :)

What is your comprehensive deductible? Once you exceed that amount, file the claim.

They want to put a new drum on both sides but will just replace one caliper? I would recommend both calipers too if your taking the time to do both drums.
Drums are about $50 each, shoes are $35, calipers $60-$90 each. Plus you’ll need a new studs and lug nuts. I’d say you’d be right near $500-$600 depending on labor and mark up on parts.
