That's how we grew up in the '60s and '70s! Had that bumper sticker on my '72 Galaxy 500 in high school. My mother hated it!

 

Years ago, my wife said "you're not folding the towels right." She then showed me how she wanted them folded. I tried again. She said "you're still not folding them right." I said "you're right; I'll stop folding towels." For 23 years, I haven't folded the towels. Wish I'd figured this out earlier.

The associated corollary to this is my statement "I'd do it, but you're so much better at it than I am (smile)." I say she made this statement to me first. She is of the obverse opinion.

 

I'm waiting for the dramatic @Itchyfeet version of OP's story. If anyone can capture the all the pathos and color at the heart of this story, he can.

 

Buy a new one that you want/really like and remember, it's your truck, not anybody else's.

 

This. I love my wife...but straight up, she's dumb as a rock about some shit and her opinion about said things is worth about the same. This can be said about the majority of people too, depending on the subject.

Hopefully this will be one of the first steps OP will take to truly & legitimately not giving a fuck about other's peoples opinions. It takes a minute to climb the hill, but once you're here, the view is fantastic

 

Shells aren't for everyone. I get that. I'm getting older and I tend to look at things from the usefulness angle. I'm considering adding a shell to my 17 Sport because there's just too many things that won't fit under my hard tonneau. Plus, in Michigan we have that wonderful thing they call snow. I hate having to clear all the snow off the tonneau just so I can fold it back for larger cargo.

 

Stupid decisions are made when we go with what our woman wants instead of what WE want. When I bought my Tacoma my wife insisted I needed an automatic because she won't drive stick.. So I bought an automatic, then she realized she prefers to drive her Rav4 anyways.

 

I'll just leave this here...
