I have a 2006 Tacoma 6 cylinder trd off road. I live in upstate NY and drive it all the time in the winter so it gets salt underneath. I noticed there is a section of my frame coming apart, I am guessing due to rust. Toyota said it is common and not to worry. I am just looking for anyone else with this problem and any advice. Will it get much worse and should I be concerned. The rest of the frame looks pretty good just a little surface rust. Thank you for any feedback!IMG_1311.jpg IMG_1308.jpg IMG_1317.jpg IMG_1318.jpg

Look closer, especially near the cab mount just aft of the front wheels. Check the inboard side of the frame next to the catalytic converters. That area tends to develop rust holes first.

You’ve seen this before on Tacoma’s? So it’s not that big of a deal. I was just worried because of all the frame problems. I have 80,000 on it and was hoping to put on another 80,000.

Isn’t your truck included in the frame rust recall?

Start whacking the frame in various spots with a ball peen hammer and see if you make any holes. If you do, then worry. If no, carry on.

What do you mean they said not to worry? The truck was inspected at a dealership? If so, I would keep documentation that they inspected it and found it to be OK, because once the deadline for the recall passes you’re out of luck.

Yes I brought it to my local dealer and they said not to worry. I am going to go back and try to get something in writing in case I have any problems down the line.

That seems like the best thing to do. I would point out the areas of most concern.

Does anyone know if the recall was extended to 12-15 years? I have seen conflicting posts that it is and that it is only the 05-11. Mine just has minor surface rust, but living in PA I would like to get it documented at least. Plan on fluid filming twice a year anyhow, but still want to cover my ass. Thanks for any info

The problem is that where the frame is separating there is debris collecting. The debris will hold moisture and accelerate the corrosion problems.

Well yeah. That would keep the debris out.
