Nearly the same when i did my 2020. I called the dealer just after new years, and spoke with their senior salesman what i wanted. They were able to set me up with the truck built in texas. Picked it up the 2nd week of march. My 2nd color choice was barcelona red to.

I’ve owned that version before (auto), great option to save and still have a very capable and reliable Tacoma. I ran 34’s on stock gears, it would still almost hit triple digits, although I don’t recommend it. Was it fast, nope, did it get me everywhere I wanted to go, yes.

    PS..pic of the old truck

Coming from a 2003 Tacoma dbl cab I had, I'm pretty happy with this 2018 Tacoma SR. It does have less power than the 3.4 I had before but overall it's a great truck. Just different getting used to all the electronic stuff that I didn't have with the '03. I like the better gas mileage too.

Something is very wrong if your v6 struggles with hills. Mine has no problem even when towing up them. Most its ever downshifted to is 4th at 50 mph on some of the longest hills in the area, and thats not even close to mashing it. It has no problems keeping up with other vehicles. Been told the 4 gets better with more mileage driven, but i can't believe its going to make that much a change from the one i drove up these hills. Yeah, you can make it go, but your really making those chipmunks work for their sun flower seeds.

nothing is wrong lol. We have a fleet of them at work. When it comes to steep hills and the highway, the truck downshifts all the time to try and maintain 75mph. Same thing on back roads. These 3.5s like to be in the higher RPM range

Idk, sounds just like a buddies trd he had. I don't have those issues at least only a highway/interstate with long hills. The truck will drop to 5th at the bottom of those hills, and stay there at 75 mph till it reach's the summit...then back to 6th if thats what you mean. I can see the tach jump some. I don't do 75 mph on back roads, 60 the most. Truck does the same on the bigger longer hills.

Being in the snow belt, are you considering a 4x4 @KonaCoffee? Other than that, I'm sure it's a great choice.

    Good luck!

This video is laughable... Especially on the 'The 4 cyl gets the same MPG as the V-6.. 17 MPG'... Absolute bullshit. I've got the 2.7 with 32K miles and can easily get (Summer gas) 27 MPG.

Test drove the 4 cyl. At the end of the test drive I bought the V6. The 4 had no power to pull hills here in Virginia.

If you like to go 85-90 MPH everywhere, don't get the 2.7. If 70-75 max is more your speed, and you are okay doing 60-65 if you go out to Colorado, the 2.7 is great. I can get 25 MPG no problem if I keep my speed down. If I go 80 it will quickly drop into the 19-20 MPG range.

I have a '21 SR 4x4 and like it a lot. It is my first daily driver with an automatic - the automatic isn't bad most of the time, but I think I would still prefer it with a stick. The power is fine on flat land but the automatic does shift a lot on the highway, especially when the cruise control is on and has to maintain the exact set speed. Most of the time I don't use cruise and use a ScanGauge II, watch the LOD number on hills. If it goes over 95 LOD it will downshift, so I limit it to 5th most of the time if the road is slightly hilly and to 4th if I am in the mountains. That cuts about 85% of the shifting. 6th is basically unusable on the highway unless it's totally flat and there's no headwind.

I put a set of Firestone Destination X/T tires on it in 245/75-16 (E-load) and it did tons of basic stuff out in Colorado without breaking a sweat (Medano Pass, Ophir Pass, etc). On some of the longer grades I did have to floor it for minutes at a time to maintain 65 MPH, but that was only at 10,000 feet. It's fine and feels like an old school Toyota to drive, down to the sound of the starter and the roar of the engine fan when you start it up.

No sir, what really mattered was..I purchased a Tacoma 2.7 4x4 that I could afford at the time and modified it to my liking. It preformed very well, got reasonable gas mileage and got the job done.
