Mine is bone stock and I get like 22-24 mpg. I sit in traffic a lot though.

At 65 MPH I get 25 MPG on the highway with a camper shell and E-load tires in the stock 245/75-16 size (Firestone Destination X/Ts that weigh 39 lbs). It will go 80 on flat land fine but will only get 20 MPG max. In hills it likes staying at 65-70 and in Colorado there were some long/steep grades at altitude (10000-12000 feet where it wouldn't go over 65 (foot to the floor in 3rd gear).

I love it, I think it's the most capable and all-around practical thing you can get for ~$30k

IMO you will hate it if you live in hilly or windy territory. The transmission up/down shifting is miserable and so is the throttle lag. I had a 2018 SR Automatic and it would not maintain 70 mph in a strong headwind. A manual is surely better. There is a KD Max tune for the 4 cyl now, so maybe that would help. I would not recommend a 4 cyl even if it runs 500k miles without service. It's about like driving a Pinto in the 70s. Life is too short to spend that much money and be unhappy with your vehicle.

I live in Texas and it is fine here, but I would not buy it if I lived at altitude in Colorado (would get a 2.3 turbo Ranger or the next-gen Tacoma with the 2.4T). It is fine for visits to Colorado but you do end up hearing 3500-4000 RPM for minutes at a time.

The trans is fine if you limit it to 4th in the hills (it is 1:1 and like having it in 5th in an old 4-cyl truck where it turns 3000 RPM at 60 MPH). If you realize 5th and especially 6th are for only totally flat terrain with no headwind, they are fine. 6th is something ridiculous like a .59 gear IIRC. Even down here, most of the time I limit mine to 5th on the interstate so it isn't going 5-6-5-6-5-6 all day.

I wish the 5spd manual was still available.

Same, I would have bought it. I wish the trans was an 8-speed with another gear between 3 and 4 and one more between 4&5

What, no more manual? No way I'd get the 2.7 with an auto. Nope.

Stopped by the dealer the other day. My truck was not “accepted” in the last order the dealership placed. They don’t really have a lot of info to give you, it’s pretty vague. He said that from the time they “accept” my order the truck might be at the dealership in two months. I do feel whenever I’m talking to them that they’re just making stuff up. Ha ha.

The 2.7 is a beast. You aren’t going to win races but you’ll be laughing in the end when you have 400k or more on your truck and everyone else’s vehicles are in the junk yard.

Seriously, it is not that bad. It's faster than an '88 4Runner V6 and waaaay quicker than an '80s Trooper or tons of other SUVs that took 15-16 seconds to do 0-60.

I have had more fun in ours in the year and a half we've had it than in all of my other cars put together, some much, much quicker.

I had the 4 and MT in my 2001 work truck, towed and worked fine. Rust issues got me to find a 4 in a Gen 2 access cab with AT. It did not like towing a light trailer in Maine hills. I would have lived with it but found the really rare access cab Gen 3, a 6 with a MT. I'm sure glad I don't live where there is lots of traffic, other than that it takes everything I have given it from plowing, trailers and road trips where I seem to average around 23 mpg riding the speed limits and cruise control. This would be really my last truck.

If 4 cylinders does what youse wants, it's a fine choice.
    I'm loving mine.

Nothing wrong with that. It seems people don't keep vehicles as long as they last anymore though. They just cycle through em every 6 years or so.
