Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
How many miles are on your truck? Sometimes since the motor is still very new, it has not loosened up much yet. I used to get awful mileage with my 2.7 and now that it is completely broken in and loosend up a bit, I average 22mpg mixed highway and city, also I am running premium gas which not only boosted the performance of my 2.7, but helped the winter mix gas issue, not to mention the truck starts up and runs much smoother on premium than it did on regular, my 2 cents

I think refineries switch Oct-Nov (it used to be a sticker o n the pump that said Nov 15) then people get winter gas when becomes available. I got bad mileage today. Dropped to 19+ instead of usual 25 MPG:confused: I think its tire pressure since my TPMS Light had been on for some time.
EDIT: Well tire pressure and the fact I was in rush in the morning

06 V6 Access Cab 4wd, slightly larger than stock size tires.

On average I get 540km, 11.6L/100km. I live on the side of a mountain and work at sea level, drive through town everyday. Lots of cold starts (tank lasts me nearly a month). In mpg it equals out to just better than 20mpg (US) The absolute worst tank I ever got was 480km, that was in snow, 4wd and some messing around.

Best tank was 670km, 9.55L/100km - Road trip, hardly any cold starts

    670km is 415 miles, 540km is 335 miles.

I'd say yeah, something is wrong with your truck. I don't think I could get that bad of a tank if I tried. Maybe its just not broken in yet.

    Jared,
    What is your actual MPG?
Miles per tank is an inexact measurement of fuel efficiency, especially given the loosey/goosey Tacoma fuel gauge.
Also, it is my experience that 'cruise' yields close to 2 MPG less than going without cruise.

    ^^^ THIS!

What is a 'tank' to the OP? I mean do you run until you run out... THAT would be a tank.

MPG is figured by the miles driven and how many gallons is used, not some mythical guess of a tank?

The tank holds at least 21 gallons... and even if you go to when the needle is pointed to 'E' empty, you will only be able to get 18 gallons in it.

A 1/4 tank on a new Tacoma may not be the same amount of gallons used as the same point on an older (Gen. 1) Tacoma.

Good luck... and top your tank... drive it for about 300 miles or to when the E-Light comes on, then top it again. Divide the miles driven by the gallons going in to re-top the tank.

The E-Light comes on when you are down 17 gallons (or have 4 left in the tank) +/- 0.5 gal.

Sounds like the Driveline has quite a bit of drag or resistance maybe?

Could anything be done to decrease it?

Air condition blower... sounds like a damn bird the right side of my truck. It's not that loud, but turn off the radio and it is loud enough.

I still have almost 8 gallons left in the tank when approaching a 1/4. That would put you at or around 17 MPG.

So you have the intake element exposed to under hood heated air ? And I would suggest you put the "stock" intake back on with a drop in filter, reason is it typically throws the MAF point calibration off, unless you have a MAF calibrator and know what youre doing.

Problem is that There are too many variables that affect mileage. It takes effort and time to tune in to get decent mileage.
What you can do is start checking where your fuel is wasted. Start with simple things fuel, tire pressure, speed and how you drive.

I used to think i got 18-18.5 MPG's with my truck. I put new tires on (265/75/16 Duratracs) and my mileage went down to 16 MPG. I thought that this was because of the new tires until i checked my speedometer with a gps. My speedometer is spot on now leading me to believe that my speedometer was reading fast before the new tires thus giving me bogus mpg numbers. I have also checked my odometer readings against a gps and road markers and my odometer reads .3 miles SLOW for every 10 miles driven.

I fill up when my low fuel light comes on. Before the tires i would get about 310 miles before the light came on. Now i get about 270 and i am sure that this number is more accurate than the 310 i used to get.

I think that if people would check their speedometer against a GPS they would find that they are reading fast, giving them inaccurate MPG numbers.

I have a 2011 TACO 4x4 v-6 DC with around 8000miles. I'm getting 17.9mpg mostly short city driving trips (2-3miles). The car is bone stock other than the tonneau cover but this only helps the mileage if driving on the freeway. I am installing a new afe S dry filter but wondering if I should remove the secondary filter. I hear conflicting results about its benefits...
