Same thing in my girls honda.
They have eaten the window washer hose and wheel speed sensor. And they like to hangout in the air box.
I use peppermint oil and put a lite under the car at night. That has worked for me.

The birds like to roost on my pickup tires, frame and even up into the engine bay if, parked outside for any length of time and yes, poop everywhere...

Did not read through all this thread so apologize if this was already mentioned ... I have had really good luck with dryer sheets strategically placed to repel mice when storing my boat, cars, etc.

Get some strips of old towel 2”x4” and put some peppermint oil on them and zip tie them to various safe places around the engine bay/vehicle. Worked wonders for us.

The dryer sheets definitely, work better than moth balls on my winterized equipment.

I saw a guy, take some 2" PVC about 2'lengths, a 2" PVC T, a Cap, and some all thread.
He made about 4 or five of these. He loaded the all cap/thread with the top cat green cubes lowered down into the Tube/T, and positioned them around where his car was. The mice/rats went after the bait and left everthing else alone. After about a month no more mice/rats. (this bait trap keeps from killing cats and dogs)

If parking outside its tough since they find your engine a place of warmth. Home depot has this spray in a gallon jug that has a mint smell. winter comes around I usually spray my tires and wheel well, has done a fair job.

Yeah its pretty close. What makes it a good bait trap is the way you can pull the cap look at how much the bait has been gnawed on or how many cubes have been consumed as they eat one cube another drops down. Not perfect but at least its always at the ready, and helps to prevent dogs, cats from taking the bait.

One could put a few around the area where the truck parks overnight, spray the wheel well and tires with some rat spray repellent each night. and it doesn't take much. Leave the bait traps in place.

2 years ago, rats/mice got on top of my truck chewed the left front VVT solenoid wiring cost a chunk to repair. Since then I have fought these vermin and when it gets cold they find a warm block a perfect bed. If your in an enclosed space like a garage, gotta find the entry points and close them up. If your outside put those bait traps around and start eradicating the bastids.

Yes, I park outside. I just bought 3 packages of Tomcat mice bait (48 blocks) and am fixing to go to Lowe’s to buy some PVC.
