Someone said earlier trucks are hard to take pics of. Why are you using that as the test subject?

Find somewhere in the house where you can set up a card table, put something like a cordless drill on it for subject matter, set up some constant light that has nothing to do with the sun, mount the tripod in one spot.

Reduce variables and rule out things as you go.

Are you shooting RAW or JPG? I think you said RAW... but if you have some cameras in JPG or a compressed format, sometimes they do some funky preprocessing.

You said you tried things on your dad's non-mac PC, so I'd rule out the software. Can you borrow a different camera body, or ask someone else (such as a pro you trust) to take the photo? make sure not to tell them any problems so you don't taint their test results.

Are you sure your settings are right?..... I once was taking pictures like that and I was wondering why it was so blurry. Found out I had it in flower setting.... so it focused on the closest object and the background came out blurry.... Auto focus was set up all weird.

All three of those flower shots seem to have a focus point. Though for better comparison, you should take pictures of something with more contrast, like the side of a deck of cards or even a steep angle of print like newspaper.

Though underexposed, the pictures look fine to me.

Ive been using picnik, its like 2 dollars a month and has been pretty decent for what I use it for. they also have a free version if you wanted to give it a try.

when you save the pic it gives you the option to reduce quality to save file size. just dont reduce the quality..
