Do you have to disconnect the upper control arm to install 5100's ? I think I read somewhere else on TW where you do. I've installed new coilovers on my 95 Tacoma and the wifes 4Runner and never had to do that.

yes you do. Very easy install! The hardest part is compressing the coils!

Yes, compressing those coils does suck. The easiest way that I found to do it is to put the coil in a vise and tighten down lightly. Then have a friend with a ratchet on one bolt and you on the other cranking it down at the same time. The instructions for the spring compressors says not to use air tools to crank them down. I really don't know why it says that.

I have done a couple before and I used an air ratchet. On the lowest setting I could use.. I think the reason they don't want you to use a air tool is the vibrations could make the compressor slide off and cause injury. Just remeber, it is NOT a race!

I got them, just curious, cause mine says RCD/Bilstein. Wondering if they merged. Or are these for the 4.5" lift. Box says Tacoma 2.5" Billies.

Lots of people recently ordered, trying to compare... I think I should be good to go...

I think on some Generation 1's they go down, I would call customer service at Bilstein and ask them.

I would put them up. In the down position the shaft has a greater chance to get damaged.. My thoughs anyway

yea..the only thing Im torn between is renting a compressor, or bringing them to work to do it on the wall mount

To me, those rented compressors suck.. The wall mount applies equall compression, and it's alot safer...

But hey just be safe however you get it done. Post some pics afterwards...
