And that is exactly why I will never have a vehicle with a push button start.

Not just push to start, and not just Toyota.

I don't like how the accessory power stays on once you shut the engine off. I like a good solid conformation that the vehicle has been completely shut off before I open the door.

It does? I don't know about your '12, but my '18 shuts everything off when I push the button to shut off the motor.

Does it?... That's a good thing. Now that I think about my 12 does too, lights would stay on until you oprn the door when left in the on position. I might be imagining things, but I thought I could still hear something shutting off while opening the door, even with the lights off.

Anyway back to gripe, the accessory stays on in my PTS Legacy until I open the door, I have noticed this on Chrysler vehicles too. Might just be the radio that stays on. I just like everything to shut off when I shut the power off on a vehicle I was just driving. That way I know it's off.

In the 2nd gens, and most Toyotas in the last several years, the accessory power will remain on for 45 seconds or until a door is opened...whichever comes first.

This gives you a little time to roll up a window that you forgot or pop a CD out of the HU, etc.

The truck gives several clues that its still running. The biggest one is that if you shut the door, any door, it will beep three times. (Thats mildly irritating when I'm frequently in/out of the truck while leveling a trailer at camp, but it also never let me forget that it was still running.) If you try to lock it, then it really gripes at you. Also, as Rahl said, pushing the button to shut it down kills the radio and climate controls instantly.

Manual windows on mine, but that's great feature for vehicles with power windows. My Legacy does not do that.

The smog pump sometimes makes noise when you shut the truck off. Its probably that.

    I probably hear that too.

Bad description on my end it's more like a "click" sound, a switch. It's what Plain Jain Taco posted.

Funny related story, a buddy of mine was leaving work one day and couldn’t find his keys, long story short he found them in his car with the engine still running. He had left his car running all day in his work parking lot, and it wasn’t even keyless ignition it was a standard key.

I get asked if my truck has a turbo far more often that I thought I would.

Hate to be a killjoy but: Not long ago a girl did that but she parked the vehicle in the garage. Left it running and shut the garage door. I don't think I need to tell you what happened to the entire family that night.
