Unless I'm pulling into fast moving traffic, the tach-o-meter hardly falls out of the range mentioned.

    Why not?

Do you mean WOT? as in Wide open Throttle? ;-)

It's just that I find normal driving to be satisfied while keeping engine revs within that lower range.

Oh! I hardly use my brakes either.... but sometimes they come in handy, so I test them when driving out of the yard.

    eta

65 mph in 6th is what? about 2300 rpm?......

Find the rev limiter. Under load, not sitting in the driveway.

Ziggy says 64.3% of the folks here don't know their truck has one, and 94.8% have never experienced it.

    Let the big dog eat.

Modern vehicles have built in nanny protections such as rev limiters and such. Any new vehicle, motorcycle, etc, I’ll experiment with the shift points to figure out what works best for me. I’ve always been more of a drive by feel person using sound, acceleration, vibes for feedback. You’re not going to break your truck with some experimentation. Obviously I wouldn’t bounce it off the rev limiter every single shift, but find where the truck drives best in the environments in which you drive.

Oh my.. you hardly use your brakes eh?

SO, you engine brake? Like all rev matched n shit?

Jesus, don't do that. Since brakes are waaaay cheaper than clutches, and there's no way you're engine braking without toasting that clutch.. according to TW

Using the clutch toasts the clutch! You are doomed to clutch failure either way:annoyed:

90% of my driving is between 2-3k. Truck seems happy with shifting around 2500 rpm and 70 on the highway is 2200-2400. Sounds normal, what's the problem?

Pull out of the mall parking lot and get that poor truck out on the open road. Enjoy the hell out of it, then take it back home, park it in the garage, wrap it in plastic and don't touch it ever again. You will wear the new off of it!!!

If you guys think this is bad, I had a calculus teacher in high school who was obsessed with fuel consumption, and whatever manual tranny vehicle he drove was kept as close as possible to 2000 RPM (or lower). He talked about it allll the time in class.

    What’s your question?

    1. Do you want to rev your engine up more?
    2. Do you want it to have a lower RPM at highway speed?
    3. You have a manual transmission shift later, or earlier?
    4. Is this a question on why you are not getting a certain MPG???

Does it stay at 3000 RPM when you park the truck? Needle might be stuck.
